Lesson moved here from last Thursday, because of rescheduling of Prime Time Assessment.
FOCUS...Write and express ideas and feelings about real or imagined people and events. HOOK...Use the Smart board OBITUARY slide. Read the two obituaries of deceased fairytale characters. STATEMENT OF LEARNING
IWBAT: Write literary texts to express their ideas and feelings about real or imagined people, events, and ideas.
IWBAT: Write a story with a single event with a developed real or imagined character (s). PRIOR CONNECTIONS Children love to hear stories about exciting characters and far away places at bedtime, school storytime, or reading them themselves.
CONNECTIONS TO THE FUTURE
There are several opportunities in which you will be able to write and express your ideas and feelings. Knowing which point of view (first or third person) to use depends on the writer's purpose. Materials: PowerPoint- Steps of the Writing Process, Reading Passage: "True Life- I'm a Teacher" by Michael Stahl, Power-Point- POINT OF VIEW
EXPLANATION
1. QUICK Review the "Steps of the Writing Process" POWERPOINT
2. Read "True LIfe- I'm a Teacher" by Michael Stahl
3. Discuss how the writer expresses in writing his ideas and feelings about a real person. CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING
1. Why is it important to sequence your story using the "writing Process"?
2. How is the passage "True Life- I'm a Teacher" different from a personal narrative? Provide text evidence from the passage that illustrates the differences.
GUIDED PRACTICE
Use the PowerPoint- POINT OF VIEW. Show the students the difference between first and third person writing so they will have a better understanding of what the expectations are in the writing activity.
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE Writing Activity: A KIND TEACHER that I will always remember is the writing prompt.
Students will create a story about a real or make believe teacher that has made an impression and that they will always remember. Remember to stay focused with the topic. Reading Activity:
1. RE- Read "True Life- I'm a Teacher" by Michael Stahl
2. Answer the questions at the end of the passage.
