Rationale
The object I have chosen is an unfinished painting of mine. A couple days before I started painting it, I found out that I was accepted into the University of Washington. For me, I think the overall purpose it holds is that it’s supposed to decorate my dining room. Furthermore, the primary reason for my choice is the creative representation of myself that it holds. The flowers are brightly colored to Immediately introduce the ambience of it; joyous. Many artists can agree that botanical paintings usually contains a symbolic message or is associated with the subject of the painting. (Meagher, 2007). In addition, I chose to paint flowers because they are quite sophisticated for their realistic and graceful appearance-

I painted these flowers from memory of various colors such as purple, blue, pink, and white. It is a white canvas supported by wood, which all together is 24” x 36”. When it is placed horizontally, on the top left of the canvas are four flowers that are pink and bunched close together. Each petal of those pink flowers ombré into a cream color on the outer part of the petals. Then next to that cluster, to the right, are two purple flowers that are also next to a golden fern. Then next to those two flowers are a blue-white ombré flower and an enormous ombré purple-white flower; both with pointed petals unlike the other ones mentioned previously. The blue and purple flower overlap the golden fern, one side has leaves painted on the right side, while the left side of the fern has no leaves pained yet. Moreover, below those are another cluster of flowers. There are another four pink flowers, however, the cream color is more prominent in this cluster. Right above those are a small version of the blue-white ombré and purple-white ombré flowers. Not only that, each flower was made carefully because not only was I unaware of which breed of flower I was painting, I was practicing a new technique specifically to paint those objects on the …show more content…
In the case of the materials given to me by my grandparents, I do believe, in part, that this painting is a gift. The canvas and the paint set are not only examples of how gifts may serve to create social bonds between people but are also examples of the principle of reciprocity. The principle of reciprocity holds significance to my object because since my grandparents gave me the materials during a ceremonial event, there is an underlying obligation for me to pay them back somehow. This relates strongly toward the concept of generalized reciprocity for the fact that in giving those materials, I have become indebted to them while they gained this status of great generosity (Yunxiang). In my perspective, since I didn’t give anything back to them that equates the value of the gifts they gave me, the principle of reciprocity is an important aspect that I am glad I have come to

Jean Baptiste Belin de Fontenay was a French painter who specialized in painting flowers. In this portrait, he painted the floral garland featured around Madame de Thorigny as well as the flowers in her hair. In the spirit of the Rococo, he paints the flowers using creamy, pastel colors. He also paints them with an ornate style, making them look realistic and textured. I believe the intention of the flower garland was to not only add beauty, but to also frame Madame de Thorigny, making her the main focus.…

Symbolism is a literary term used ought to often. Sometimes it is not even necessary in a wide variety of its uses. Yet in some stories, it is all the readers have to go off of and his extremely vital. In “The Flowers” and “Chrysanthemums” the authors so seamlessly insert one or two examples of symbolism into the text, so the instances were obvious enough to the readers but delicately placed therefore they were not obnoxious. The two short stories are slightly similar since both of their symbols are regarding flowers, yet they have completely different meanings. Self-Portraits. Journal. The Renaissance artists Titian, Rembrandt, and Durer have each painted self-portraits. Imagine yourself as one of these artists (or another artist of your choice that has painted a self-portrait) and write a journal expressing your thoughts on “your” art (in other words, the journal entries the artist would probably write.) (1) Explain “your” primary reason for painting a self-portrait. (2) Describe “your” artistic choices in composition: use of color, space, etc. (3) Explain what the portrait represents about “you” (as the artist.) (4) Explain “your” choices of subject with regard to at least three other specific pieces “you” have painted.…

It also represents the time frame that Opportunities have and how we should take them when given the chance. For example, "if the night blooming cereus was an omen of anything it was of good weather for travelling"(page 251). a class divided reflection

Everyone is likely to experience some form of discrimination or prejudice; as is anyone capable of acting prejudiced towards others. On April 5th, 1968, a teacher in Riceville, Iowa named Jane Elliot conducted an experiment with her third grade class that dealt with the concept of discrimination; and was documented in Peters’ 1985 ‘A Class Divided’. The exercise originally took place the day after Martin Luther King was assassinated. The documentary is an eye opener to the world of racism and discrimination. Bucher (2010) describes racism as “discrimination based on the belief that one race is superior to another” (97). According to Bucher (2010) “discrimination is defined as the unequal treatment of people on the basis of their group membership” (100). Bucher goes on to say “treatment varies because of race, age, gender, social class or any number of other dimensions of diversity” (100). ‘A Class Divided’ exposes that discrimination doesn’t just go to the extent to the color of skin, culture or ethnicity, but discrimination can fall into any physical characteristics, social status, having a developmental disability, simply being a woman, and in this case the color of your eyes.…

CSI Class Reflection To begin, I just want to say that the overall idea of this class is just ridiculous. The fact that no other school in the entire county requires a class like this on top of the amount of stress that it puts students through is just deplorable. Not to mention that students who have other commitments besides school, such as a job, or even in my case college, have a hard time even finding the time to work on their project outside of school. Secondly, this class is just a hodge podged Civics class, so why not instead of having an entire year of civics have a year long Civics/CSI class hybrid, combine the curriculums, and dedicate time over the entire year to the CSI project?…

My reflection focuses on objective three and six. I chose objective three because I felt a real connection with in my own life and I really liked that I was able to use some of my personal experiences and prior knowledge to complete the assignments. I was able to develop an understanding of life experiences as shaped by membership in groups based on specifically nationality, socioeconomic status, and religion. The assignments database five, and the first reflection paper are the lessons I chose that relate to objective three. I chose objective six because I was able to take what previous experience I had in the school setting and elaborate the educational experience to include family and community.…
