When visiting Jones Park located on South Carferry Drive, you may expect to see a roped off area of green grass, a playground where young children can be seen swinging on swings, or owners walking their beloved pets, but what you will quickly come to find is that this park is unlike any other in size, shape, appearance and history. Milwaukee’s smallest park, Jones Park, has only a large anchor and a commemorative plaque, that reads "Designated as a Milwaukee landmark in 1974 in recognition of the unique multi-ethnic fishing village that flourished on this peninsula during the late 19th and 20th centuries and played a significant role in the city 's history." Yet this tiny park has one of the most interesting histories of global connection and migration to Milwaukee.…
1. Who benefits from the construction of the park? How should the park be distributed? What feedback will the citizens reciprocate? Will management of the park promote progress and inspire future projects?…

• Parents (Young Children): Parents would be a type of customer that the park would have to consider, not because of the parents, but more so the young children that they would of taken to the park. Their expectations would range from rides and other forms of entertainment that would be suitable for their children, as well as accessible changing facilities for very young children. They may also need a child orientated restraint for the children to eat out, and not a restraint that is more geared towards adults. I would also presume that they expect to have some sort of navigation or information for them to actually find places suitable for their children.…
A new generation had come along and had forgotten the old values of the genteel reformers and became “eager to respond to amusement in a less earnest cultural mood: more vigorous, exuberant, daring, sensual, uninhibited, and irreverent” (Kasson 6). These cultural changes going on were greatly reflected by Coney Island and the entertainment it offered people. Coney Island provided a place where people could escape the big city and enter “a world apart from ordinary life, prevailing social structures and conditions” (41). Coney Island countered the cities atmosphere by encouraging behavior that would have been considered unacceptable in any other public setting. The amusement parks at Coney Island inspired its visitors to be “temporarily freed from normative demands” (41). When people entered Coney Island their customary roles and status were abandoned and everyone became equal to one another. Coney Island accommodated all people, regardless of their ethnicity or social class standing. This aspect was especially important for new immigrants and working class groups. Coney Island included these groups of people and provided them with “a means to participate in mainstream American culture on an equal footing” (40). This contrasted with the atmosphere of the cities and gave the immigrants and working class a better sense of belonging while they were on the…

The smell of the flowers gives off a calming effect. The birds occasionally swoop past and there is a gentle breeze coming through the trees. Some people are walking their dogs. The dog’s fur is a soft pillow that cushions a person while they sleep. The dog’s nose is moist and cold. The asphalt is nice and smooth. There are no cracks or bumps and it adds to the surrounds. The sunlight comes through the trees creating patterns on the ground. The sunlight’s heat is gentle and not too hot. The whole park is clean and family friendly. It is an atmosphere perfect for enjoying any day of the week.…
A space must attract the public so that it will be used. Project for Public Spaces, or PPS, states in their article “What Makes a Successful Public Space?” that the success of a space depends on “[w]hether [it] is comfortable and presents itself well . . .”. Legacy Gardens is an attractive environment for the use of students. The space is presented in a professional manner; it is adjacent to the college, and contains organized, square features such as the seating blocks and planters. The large fountain creates ambient noise, which is relaxing for the stressed student or staff member. The professional atmosphere of this area provides a calm, focused environment, and is, therefore, inviting to students.…
In my earlier years my family took me camping to a lake. My cousins came as well, which made it even more enjoyable. When we arrived at the campsite, I was in awe. It was something out of a Disney movie. There were towering pine trees shielding us from the sun’s rays. Wild plants and bushes surrounded our campsite, but not too far away was a clearing in the bushes where we can see the lake in all its glory. People were fishing, kayaking, swimming, and playing with their dogs.…
I would like to ask the audience: When you think of a vacation in Disney World, what comes to mind? John Cloud from Time International stated it correctly when he said “You’re thinking roving packs of sunburned children who let their ice cream drip on your toes as you wait to ride Space Mountain. You're thinking overpriced hot dogs and hotel pools crammed with little kids leaving warm spots. All true, but the city has also quietly become a favored destination for adults traveling without kids”. I have been to Disney World over 30 times in my life. I have essentially grown up with Disney World so I know the best places to visit as a child and an adult. There are a variety of different exciting activities offered all within Walt Disney World. In a publication by MyPrimeTime.com, a website that offers inspiration and tips to adults, the author says that Disney World “offers adults, even without kids, so many recreation options that they can't possibly do them all in just a week… However, it's not easy to find information about [Disney World] that isn't geared for kids or families”. I am here today to show you that adults can have as much fun, if not more fun than, children at Disney World. I will begin with “Five-star Amenities”, then “Spots & Recreation”, and finally I will end with “Special Events”.…
By increasing public space in this area, shopping along the strip can take place without the disruption of traffic, commercial industry already located along the beach will profit. More people that are frequenting the beach simply to go to the beach will be attracted to the shops that emanate colour, vibrancy and seek out the curious. This will also create an opportunity for parents to take their children out for gatherings with other friends, create more relaxation while doing errands by having objects of play nearby for the children's amusement allowing children to be amused rather than bored. "These "Spieldpunkte", as they are called, (focal points for play) serve as gathering points, bringing people together, and affording children the…
