First Observation I am observing a male who is a one year old. I am observing him during a volleyball match because he is our coach’s son. The environment is a gym filled of a lot of unknown people to him such as our volleyball team and we were all surrounded by him, at first he seemed to cling closer to his dad because he almost seemed shy around us. He just sat beside his dad’s foot and almost had a confused look as if he was thinking who are all of these people? He then began holding onto the chair and pulled himself up until he was standing. Of course we thought this was so cute so we all clapped for him and he started to smile. It then seemed as if he had warmed up to all of these strangers.
As soon as his dad stepped away he instantly followed where his dad was going with his eyes. He must have felt comfortable knowing his dad was still there because he then began to interact with us once again. He would stand up and fall down over and over and everyone would say “oooop”. The next time he fell down it sounded as if he said “ooop”.After each time it began to sound more and more like the actual word. This relates to Piaget’s theory of sensorimotor stage. After a minute or two of just standing and smiling, he plopped back down on the ground and started crawling away from everyone towards the volleyball net. It seemed as if he was exploring his environment. His dad went over and picked him up and placed him back by the chair and handed him a volleyball to keep him occupied.
At first he stared at the ball. He began experimenting with the ball by touching it and then realized that the ball could roll. This is also Piaget’s sensorimotor stage because he was exploring the volleyball. He pushed it away from him and someone would pick it up and place it right by him once again. He pushed it away again and again. I guaranteed he would have done that all night! I thought it was interesting the one time because he pushed it away and nobody got it and
