Growing up my mom has always encouraged my siblings and I to continue our education to as far as college. My mother never really got the chance to attend college because her family could not afford to put all their kids in school. She had seven siblings and an extra bill for school was not something her parents were able to afford. I consider myself really lucky to be alive in a time where there are so many opportunities to be able to afford college. If it were not for scholarships and financial aid, my mother’s story would be repeated once again. Through financial aid, the door for a college career is opened for me and I’m willing to enter it. My biggest motivator to push myself academically has been my…
Growing up, most parents and educators tell children to be successful and live a happy life you have to attend college. However, this is not always true. People who do not obtain a college degree are not necessarily unsuccessful. Some people are intellectually challenged and have disabilities that do not let them perform at a high level. Also, America’s economy has risen drastically that some households cannot afford college tuition. College is not for everyone, and there are many things students and families should consider before enrolling.…
Every year a class of high school seniors graduate and then begin their lives as adults. While the choices they made in high school are important, the choices they make after this will be of the utmost importance. A decision of how to start their lives as adults either joining the workforce, the armed forces, or attending college are the choices they have to make. A lot goes into which direction the student will steer his or her life. Pressures of going to college come from not only school teachers, but family, friends, and peers also. Teachers tell their students that college is the best way to go if they want to succeed in life, as many careers require further education beyond that of a high school diploma. Parents are always glad to see…
College is a daunting subject for students everywhere. From the moment middle schoolers move on into high school, graduating is the sole widespread focus, and the question of “what will you do afterwards?” begins to be asked. Though many may take a gap year, others will begin to work or continue to work their high school jobs, almost all students will have the same debate: whether they will go to college or not. This has been an ongoing topic for generations, and the variance of opinions regarding college attendance are incredibly diverse, spanning from some people thinking that it’s useless and causes needless debt, to others who think it’s an absolute necessity and good jobs cannot be acquired without it. However, due to the complex and varied debate subject, one must first understand the basis it has stemmed from.…
I recently found a list of goals that I had written 20 years ago. Most of the goals were realistic and I was able to achieve them. While I was checking the items off my list that I accomplished, there was one that I have debated about for many years—returning to school to earn a degree. Returning to school has always been achievable; however, as each year of my life sped by and I got older, I always came up with more and more excuses as to why I should not return to school. One day I received a course catalog in the mail showing online classes at the college. I decide that an online class would be the first step to my future. I am so grateful for the first day of that class. All the excuses and delays regarding returning to school were in vain. It is amazing the different prospective I know have about being a child verses an adult in school.…
I was the kind of guy who always strove in order to get the highest grades but yet hadn’t decided what to do in the future. I wasn’t worried, I knew someday I would find something in what I was good at. I got to live with that thought for some time until I got to attend middle school, where I stopped worrying about my grades and managed only to pass the subjects. I spent most of my time sleeping due to the frustration of not knowing what to do in the future. Most of my middle school experience was tasteless. I hadn’t friends at all, and teachers used to discourage their students about their future. “You're not going to college, you’ll not be able to do it because you’re poor” used to say, Mrs. Vazquez, the math teacher who instead of giving her class, talked on how much his son had accomplished in college and how we would not be able to attend. That was about to change.…
College is one of the periods of life where there is most growth, both personally and academically. Going to college is a very challenging yet rewarding experience. It brings people out of their comfort zones personally, whereas academically, people get to focus more on what they are good at. In my case, it will be a challenge to adapt to the college environment at the same time that it will be very comfortable to finally study subjects that truly interest me. This exciting challenge is the main reason I want to go to college. Most people want to go to college to get a degree and earn a lot of money, which leads them to more expensive and selective colleges. I, on the other hand, intend to focus more on the course and the subjects I will study.…
Not a lot of my relatives have gone to college and if they have they didn't go far. College gives a person so much pride and would give me ten times more because i'm african american. It is a known fact that black women from ages 18-25 are most likely not enrolled in college.I want to break the cycle and set an example for the younger people who look up to me. From experience I know half way doing things is not setting yourself up for the real world. Most likely it will not generate valuable work to your professors when you get into a college. Older people than myself constantly say it only gets harder as you get older. Logically why not do the best you can possibly do when you are able. It was not by chance that I was presented with this miracle, so it is only right that I give my all and make sure I go above and beyond. When people look at me, I want them to see a hardworking girl who they wouldn't mind helping out because they see my diligence and…
Pursuing an education doesn’t always go as smoothly as we wish. In today’s society many people believe indulging in corporate jobs, and businesses is the only way to be successful. In most cases the way to achieve this is for students to further their education beyond just a high school diploma. In the Midst of reading “A Homemade Education” written by Author Malcolm X, I have come to realize that sometimes people have to work hard to overcome inhibitions, and setbacks. Students need the ability to overcome common obstacles, an essential factor for pursuing and education. The most common of obstacles include paying tuition, self-discipline and even just a lack of retaining knowledge as easy as others.…

As my life progressed towards that point in which I needed to make a critical decision about college, I had a lot of mixed feelings about whether this decision would hold the key to the future and life I have hoped for. After a long thought process, I had realized that you need some form of a college degree to obtain a solid well paying job. This was when I understood that college would be the path I would take for that life I wanted.…
I realize that all college students have many problems when they go to college at their first year. They have many problems caused by the routine of school .They go to school at the same time and return from it at the same time. However, when they go to college, they tackle a new system of education and a new way of studying. In this essay I will shed light on the problems we all tackled when we went to college in the first year. In my opinion the most serious problem we tackled in college is how you can be independent and rely on yourself and another important problem is how to can adjust to a new way of studying.…

When growing up you picture yourself becoming a doctor, teacher, or other awesome professional. In grammar school, you’re just happy about what you want to be when you grow up. Then you go to high school and realize your goal is reachable; it’s just going to take some hard work and a lot of studying. That’s a summary, of how road to college started, but life took over and everything came to a halt. Now, my life is back on track, so I decided to attend Strayer University to secure my financial future, personal reasons, and gain many options of career advancement.…
Various problems are now being experienced by our country and there are a lot of things that brought changes to our lives. Socio-economic problems, bureaucratic problems, and the biggest problem faced by our country, financial problem, are greatly affected by global economic crisis. As students, we are hoping that someday we will be the one to bring hope to this country, don’t be one of the burdens to it and help it progress and attain its ultimate success, and the beginning of that vision would start with the right choice of college course. With that proper choice of course, we will be able to develop and improve our God given talents and apply our knowledge and intelligence to it, though it is a free of cost opportunity to select and pick a course, this is not an easy task for it requires a lot of analysis of the course and decision-making. During the period of our childhood, we always have reveries of what we want to happen in the future, we have these desires and ambitions that someday we will become an engineer, a pilot, a doctor, a dentist or a lawyer, these are just reflection of our fundamental preferences for certain kind of activities, but these desires were bit by bit being converted to another because we are now considering a lot of factors and aspects in selecting a course, especially during this time of preparation in entering the next stage of learning which is college. This is a complicated stage that takes place during the junior year, and specifically, the senior year of high school level…
