2.1 Introduction
This literature review will address the currently existing, up to date literature on how the role of an occupational therapist improves the lives of children with physical disabilities. In addition, this review will compare the different treatment plans for children that are designed in order to improve their self esteem, quality of life and their independence. It will also include how those in need intend to obtain the services that are provided in order to get the best therapy possible.

There are many different needs and situations that occupational therapists can deal with so therefore there are many different intervention plans that they can come up with. An early intervention refers to intervention undertaken to influence learning and development of young children (0 – 6 years old). Early intervention supports and services are designed to meet the developmental needs of children and to enhance a child’s development (TER, 2013). Normally when a patient goes to an occupational therapist for the first time, the therapist will evaluate how well a child can do certain activities compared to other children their age.
