Ocean Descriptive Writing
For the first time, I struggled with my buoyancy; I don’t know how fast I sank, but it was more than one foot per second. The pressure was intense. I needed to equalize; I pushed the air connector on BC-jacket to get a shot from the tank to counteract my sinking, letting the air out slowly to descend at a proper rate. I moved one step up, two steps down until I touched the ocean floor. The echoed sound of my breathing jolted out of sync with my movements. A thermocline from above and below traveled through my wetsuit. The crackling sound of the air bubbles amplified. The cold water filled to my shoulders and knees. My heart thumped. A reddish glow appeared. To my chest and hips. The sound of crackling air bubbles drove me insane. Red is the …show more content…
I felt calm, but in the quiet, the cumulus stretched and darkened into a vortex. A giant eye gleamed at me, it wanted to toy with me but changed its mind. I'm only a flash in its domain. I stared at the ever-darkening clouds. A force entered me. Double waves; one inside the other spinning in opposite directions tunneled through my cells and with it this time - the smell of death. It plowed into me like a copper truck dumping its load of rotten eggs, human waste, and rancid meat imploding my cells. My head jerked. I blew out blood, vomit, and an ooze into my regulator. The distinct smell of death turned to taste I couldn’t expel. An unholy metallic death under the gunmetal sky. The next double-waves came through me, shattering my core by its opposing …show more content…
He looked around for anything to help me out of the water. I was six feet beneath him. I commanded myself into motion. For my feet to grow titanium roots into those damn rocks - new limbs if need be. A neon fury lit up in my brain and in one clean swoop of madness - I burst from the water. I pulled the back of his shirt and sent him sprawling into the ocean. Oh yes, if ever there was a real victory, it was in those bloodied hands. Mark was the one in the water, and I was the one on the rock. I was the survivor and not the victim. I didn’t have to be the fittest; only faster than the one next to me. He didn’t have good instincts, but I did. It’s evolution. Just like the advanced divers Mark, backward into the water, you

As a reaction I lunged for it and I lost my balance and before I knew it, I was in the water. I cried out hoping someone would hear me and I tried to swim after the racing yacht but after I had swam about fifty feet, I began to realize there was no way I was going to catch up to it. I stopped in the water and I heard a high screaming sound, the sound of an animal in an extremity of anguish and terror. I didn’t even recognize the animal.…

A small ripple ran across the surface of the water where he had been. I called out his name, hoping that he had just swam underwater for a second. There wasn't a response. I swam out to where he was, feeling slimy strips of sea weed brush against and entangle my feet as I cut through the water as fast as I could.…

I opened my mouth to scream, to let out the heaviness inside of my heart, but I did not hear a sound. All I knew of was the warmth of my tears and the pounding in my head. No. I run into the water, my body being electrified with coldness. My arms slapping the water, I urge myself through to get to her.…

Suddenly, the once blue summer ski covered in white pearly clouds like marsh mellows, disappeared within moments of departure. Billowing gray clouds suffocated the atmosphere as far as the naked eye could see. A light sprinkle of participation turned into a sever downpour of rain stinging our bare moist skin that no longer protected us. It felt as though petite needles continuously dug deep beneath the epidermis.…

I knew I wouldn’t make it to the top of the murky, warm and brown waters. I could feel the oxygen being released quickly from my lungs and bubbles swiftly skimming my skin as I slowly reached the bottom of the lake. I heard the faint cries for help and loud splashing as my sight becomes blurred. I felt someone’s hands grab mine and pull me onto the grainy dusty dirt. My vision comes back and I feel everyone’s eyes on me. They all immediately start laughing at me as I stood up and brushed the dirt off of me, feeling something tightly clutch my body.…

I was disappearing again. I could feel it. I could feel the sterile white walls slowly sucking all the colour out of my skin. I could tell that the iron bars covering my window were slathering at the curve of my body. They were tired of always having to stand up straight; they too were slowly taking a part of me. They were taking my outline. The fluorescent light was burning the colour from my hair and the whispers were carrying it away strand by strand.…

I run as fast as a storm to get to the blockades for cover. Bullets whizz, whistle and whoosh past. My heart pounds against my ribcage, bursting to jump out. Men tumble to the floor, one by one dropping to their knees, like they are sitting ducks. I stumble and fall into the water, the only thing calm. Slowly sinking, I scream for help. But no sound comes out. The only thing that did was bubbles of air. I was battling Mother Nature herself...this was the end... I close my eyes, slowly running out of oxygen. But my men cut the bag off my back and I’m free...Totally free...…

I walked softly up a brightly lighten path up the mountain, the weather was harsh; however I walked on a protected path leading high up in the Denali. What appeared ahead stood radiant colors raining from the sky blues, purples, yellows and green poured deep into the earth. As I stare in awe the moon grew brighter and beamed white light down onto a shadow that appeared in the shadow of the northern lights. As I began to walk towards this mysterious shadow my eyes focused in closer. As I stood there taking in the full image of this miraculous view, I was awaken by the sound of rain trickling on the window. I sneak quietly out of bed and make it into the kitchen to begin baking some fresh blueberry muffins. Before I could taste the muffins, “splash!”…

The image of myself in the crevice of the sand underwater and the top layer of the ocean replays in my mind often. I can recall the moment’s features exactly. A few days later, my sister Andie told me how terrified she was seeing my head roll under the water in the distance. It is apparent to me that this is what big sisters are for, her timing really came in at the right moment to watch over me that day. I remember hearing Andie screaming as I fell in and out of consciousness “Mom take her! Mom! Take her!”. Andie had ripped me out of the water as the waves crashed over, throwing us into sharp coral on the shore. Every bash into the coral was a cut against our skin. We wrestled with the land. This end portion to me is all a blur. My sister handed me off to my mom and my haze of a nightmare experience was over.…

I woke up hazed with blurred vision. The right side of my face was dried and burned. The left side of my face was soaked in salt water and blood. I was freaked out and picked up my head and blinked rapidly. I saw nothing but blue for miles and miles, the sky and the water. When I looked down I saw nothing but a small black and orange rubber dingy. I tried to think about what had happened. It was then when I realized I couldn't even remember my own name. Then panic just settled in for some reason I jumped in the water freaking out. I came to my senses and quickly started using all my strength to hurdle myself in the dingy.…
