During Odysseus’ journey him and his men sailed to the land of cyclops’ and other creatures. while there they went on a cyplous terrorist, Since him and his men were tired and hungry they helped themselves to the cyclops property. Soon after the cyclops caught them and trapped them in his cave. The cyclop is much more powerful than Odysseus but Odysseus’ intelligence is strong so he used that to his advantage so him and his men could escape the cave. Eventually Odysseus figured out a plan to escape and him and all his men together got away. After all of this victory “Odysseus, raider of cities” shout out that it was him that took the cyclops eye and “ whose home’s on Ithaca”(Homer,965). Odysseus and his men built a Trojan horse to enter the kingdom Troy, and when they already entered the battle begin and they defeated the Troy kingdom. Odysseus declared that he defeated Troy himself without the help of other Gods, so that Poseidon got angry and punished him. Poseidon didn’t let Odysseus to reach Ethica, he gives Odysseus many obstacles, but Odysseus never stop to find way to get back to Ethica, he never surrender on whatever the obstacles is, even in sacrificing herself just to see again Penelope and his son and to get back to…
Odysseus, in The Odyssey by Homer, and I both demonstrate determination in many different ways. The first example is when they stopped at the land of the Lotus Eaters. The men that ate the lotus wanted to stay on the land because they were addicted to the lotus, but Odysseus, the great leader, would never let that happen. He said, “I drove them, all three wailing, to the ships, tied them down under their rowing benches” and told the rest not to eat the Lotus or they would lose their wishes of wanting to return home (898). This shows Odysseus’s committed and driven state of mind in the way that he would not leave any man behind, and he knew he needed to help them up on the ship and return them home safely. In addition, Circe warned Odysseus…

The gods have played their part altering the course of the hero’s voyage. Seemingly, in the epic harmony does not last long and challenges follow Odysseus like a plague. Calypso, the audience believes holds the last installment of the global journey, our hero has yet more battles ahead of him. In fact, the king of Ithaca wandered the Mediterranean and its coastal lands for 10 years before finally arriving home. As waves crash against the raft, “he was seen sailing the ocean”(284). The sea near the land of the Phaeacians is only one region Odysseus has been driven to. All these occurs as a number of loyal citizens and a hopeful family await his return, a period when others dependence on him shines through. As Odysseus is under the angry waters…
Sometimes you have to go through the worst to reach the best. Describes all the hardships that Odysseus has to go through to eventually get home to his loving family. Odysseus, the hero of The Odyssey, has found himself in many interesting, as well as dangerous, predicaments. Although these predicaments were extremely challenging, Odysseus always found a way to survive. His survival depended on his mind and body combined. Without this important balance of thought and strength, it is obvious that Odysseus would not have made it home safely, or he may have not even made it home at all. Throughout The Odyssey, by Homer, Odysseus showed amazing personal qualities that enabled him to survive his adventures.…
I will be writing a essay of the book The Odyssey written by the person Homer. The main reason why I am written is so that you can know Odysseus is a hero because how he helps other people before he would help himself.…
Odysseus played both the hero and villain role in The Odyssey; it all depends on whose perspective you see him through. Penelope saw her husband as a hero who fought hard to get back home to her. To Polyphemus, Odysseus was a villain who tricked him and blinded him. During the Trojan War he expressed an enormous amount of hero traits, but later in his journey, especially in books 9-12 his heroic behavior diminished.…
The purpose of a goal is to have something to look forward to, something to strive for, and something that brings purpose to one’s life. By establishing a goal, one provides a road in which success can be found. This road may often be long and paved with struggles and trials, it may be filled with temptation which can lead one astray, but this road can also bring greatness and triumph if one does not give up along the way. The most difficult part in having a goal, is establishing what it is. In the Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus’s ambition to get home preceding the war is what initiates his long and strenuous journey. Along the way, he will have to face grueling obstacles such as a one eyed, man eating, Cyclops, who tests Odysseus’s…
Everyone faces struggles at some point in their life, no matter if you are a hero from an old mythical story or a modern day person living in Iowa. Even though the struggles faced by Odysseus and me are different, they have a common overlapping theme that ties them together. Which causes them in turn to be in fact very comparable. Both Odysseus and I face obstacles such as temptation, laziness, and distraction. Although his obstacles come from his want to go back home to Ithaca, mine are from my desire to live a happy and healthy lifestyle.…
