In a battle with a giant vs. a mortal who do you think is going to win? The bigger guy is normally bound to win in most situations because of the extra strength and size. These qualities don't always work though, especially when facing Odysseus. Although he may only the size of a human, Odysseus can handle much more then he would seem, being a man full of smart decision making, leadership, and bravery ; these traits validate Odysseus’s title of a ¨hero¨.
Odysseus is typical brave type of person that underestimates a situation then ends up putting himself and his crew into some threatening situations, but unlike others, he manages to get out of them. Odysseus will stand up to anyone who comes in his path. Right when they come in contact with the blood curdling 20 foot cyclopes, Odysseus speaks no lies but tells the blunt truth to the terrifying creature hovering above him and his men. “We felt pressure on our hearts, in dread of the deep rumble and that mighty man... He has to think of how everyone else is going to escape, and decides to sharpen a log, into a weapon, to injure the cyclopes. “I hewed again to make a stake with a pointed end.... whose hand could bare to thrust and grind that spike into the Cyclopes eyes...” Homer (155). This shows his bravery because why would you try to fight something that can easily take you and your crew all down. He knows that if this plan doesn't work they are all doomed so his is very brave to even try this. Not many humans I know are going to sneak attack to huge monster when victory isn't even guaranteed. Odysseus and his crew do know that they aren't trying to kill the cyclopes so they know it is still going to be able to harm them because he is only being blinded. This scene can surely show one braveman, knowing after harming the Cyclopes the escape isn’t
