Odysseus Lack Of Honor In Ancient Greek Society

On the other hand, Ancient Greek society valued pride and fame as shown by their noble hero Odysseus. To put it in another way, Odysseus showed lots of self-importance and hubris as he defeated powerful monsters to earn a great deal of honor. To illustrate, Odysseus said “How do you like the beating that we gave you, you damned cannibal? Eater of guests under your roof!” After defeating the Cyclops, Odysseus was boasting and telling his achievements to the world. Odysseus bragging about his accomplishments shows that Ancient Greeks wanted their heroes to have a heavy emphasis on their egotism. In the end, Ancient Greek society encouraged their epic heroes to have lots of importance and honor for their achievements thus showing Ancient Greeks
