He says, “As king I would have onerous duties too. How could kingship bring me more delight than this untroubled power and influence? I’m not misguided yet to such a point that profitable honors aren’t enough. As it is, all wish me well and all salute; those begging you for something have me summoned, for their success depends on that alone. Why should I lose all this to become king? A prudent mind is never traitorous” (Oedipus the king, 1.2, 596-605). Creon is shown as honest, and even tempered. When Oedipus accuses him of conspiring to overthrow him, Creon gives a rational explanation as to why he wishes to not take the King's position. In this episode, Creon’s level-headedness is prevalent. His level-headedness is a contrast of Oedipus's hot headedness. This is how Creon shows himself to be forgiving and even minded.
Oedipus in Sophocles’ “Oedipus the King”, is a dynamic character, meaning that he goes through a character change. In the beginning of the play he was a gallant king, and slowly throughout the play his downfall lead him to be fearful and shambled. Creon remains static throughout the play in order to balance out the dynamic character. Their two very different personalities are what balance each other out.
