Of Beetles And Angels Character Analysis
Mawi Asgedom, in Of Beetles and Angels, narrates his story of how he went from a refugee camp in Sudan to one of the best schools in the United States, Harvard. As Mawi makes the transition from Africa to the United States he learns how important it is to become a man.
Mawi is trying to figure out the qualities of being man, he observes different men such as his brothers, friends, teachers to find what these qualities looks like, he completely overlooks his father, Haileab. Haileab taught him that the man must take, “responsibility for... [the] family” (110). Even as Haileab eyesight decreased, he continued to work hard at trying to provide for his family. Mawi learned from his father by watching him while he worked with, “tireless dedication”
