TIn the text Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck demonstrates the importance of having a dream.
'Without dreams, there can be no courage. And without courage, there can be no action', this famous quote clearly agrees with John Steinbeck's point of view of one having a dream. Set during he The Great Depression, literary classic, 'Of Mice and Men', (1937) by John Steinbeck, explores many themes. However, Steinbeck clearly puts an emphasis in each character's dreams, whether they are the protagonists or the antagonists. In The novel, Steinbeck accentuates through his characters that dreams are necessary for one to live.
In the novella, dreams are one of Lennie, one of he protagonist's key points to life. This is evident as Lennie repetitively asks George 'tell me - like you done before", about their dream of the land and Lennie's rabbits. By remembering about the dream and rabbits, Lennie seems to be sane and out if any trouble. To Lennie, listening about the dream and rabbits is like listening to a bed time tale, as he has it memorized and lives to listen to it when George says it, as 'it ain't the same if I tell it... Go o, George". When George says it, Lennie feels more secure about the rabbits as George is like his companion-guardian. To Lennie, this tale is the motivation to a healthy and safe life. Without this dream and rabbits ,Lennie wouldn't focus, always be doing bad things accidentally and lead a 'mussy' life, and he would have no stable reason to live. Through Lennie and his dream, Steinbeck conveys the message that everyone has a dream and were crucial to life, including the mentally impaired, who were seen inferior. Dreams were not only encouragement but also helpful in psychological side. Thus, dreams play an important role in ones life.
