Friendship means supporting and caring for one another during tough times and absences. In Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie, who have been friends since childhood, embark on a journey to find work on a ranch when George and Lennie finally discover one, a man working there tells George that he has "never seen one guy take so much trouble for another guy” (Steinbeck 29). Prior to their arrival at the ranch, they sat around the campfire and talked about their passion. Lennie expresses how grateful he is for being with George and says something that he has always felt, they have gone through a lot and it's “.because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that’s why” (Steinbeck 14). This quote shows that even with everything they are experiencing, Lennie still expresses that they have each other and they will always be there for each other no matter what, which shows how strong their friendship and connection are. They talk to the boss, and he notices Lennie acting foolish, George stands up for him and tells him that “he ain’t cuckoo but he's dumb as hell but he ain’t crazy I ain’t so bright either” ( Steinbeck 39). George tells the boss that even though he looks or acts dumb he still has great qualities like he is very strong which is a plus for him since it's ranch work. This quote describes how much George stands up for
