Sometimes George thinks about how it would be to live by himself and “…set in some poolroom” or “… stay all night in some lousy cat house” (Steinbeck, 11). George is not able to enjoy exciting activities, or have a social life. George is sometimes unable to take constant care of Lennie, and then in the few moments he is unsupervised, Lennie runs gets in trouble. George later on tells Lennie that he wants the best for him and says “Ever ‘body gonna be nice to you” (Steinbeck, 106). After dealing with Lennie doing another bad thing (killing Curley’s Wife), he makes the decision to kill Lennie. George’s decision was very tough, and it made him even lonelier, because he does not have anyone to care for or travel with. George loses his closes companion and he most likely does not pursue Loneliness is among very many people at the ranch, but they all have different negative affects from it. The characters in the novella Of Mice and Men, Crooks, Curley’s Wife, Candy, and George just wanted to be able to have a decent social life. Loneliness affects the characters in negative ways, making them do and say things that they normally wouldn't. People need to have a friend to vent to, share happiness, and to help them through the struggles that occur in life, because it is too difficult to trudge through life without a loving person that you can always count
