Do you really think you’re lonely ? Think that you’re isolated with no one ? There is an unlikely pair : George who is a small independent working man who could do very well by himself and there is Lennie a man of tremendous size and strength but has the mind of a young child. There are also other characters but the three characters that are relevant are people who exemplify loneliness and isolation. The first character is who is lonely and isolated is Candy. He never really had anyone to begin with but he had his loyal dog. He raised his dog from a pup from which began to grow old with him “That’s a hell of an old dog” (24) and began to carry a awful smell. She never was happy from the beginning. Coming up she had dreams of being an actress and met a guy who was involved in that at a dance. The guy claimed he was going to hollywood and once he got there he would write her a letter and hopefully soon get her in the movies to. She waited for the letter that never came which she then began to think her mother took but when she asked her mother did she her mother said she didn’t. So to get back at her mother she married Curley who was her husband who didn’t show any affection nor really payed her any attention which made her go seeking for it but all of the other guys on the farm knew she was much trouble. There was no other women on the barn so she really had nobody to conversate with so she began to try to flirt with some of the workers cause she never really liked Curley from the get go she only married him to make her mother mad. Curley was always busy working or trying to show off and impress the other guys so therefore she grew lonely. Sense she was a women to she didn’t have much respect from males anyway they looked at her as if she was property or an object. Also, since Curley was always gone she really had nobody to show her any attention so she also grew isolated. All three characters put together all showed loneliness and isolation in its best
