Abstract
In this paper I will be writing a memorandum to my “boss” about various pieces of art (s)he wants me to pick out to decorate the new corporate offices. I will be identifying three examples of 19th century Impressionist painting or sculpture and three Post-Impressionist works. In this memo I will explain how the six pieces of art fall into these two styles. Also I will describe the appearance of the six choices I pick to my CEO so (s)he will know what the art looks like and where it would be placed in the corporate offices. This memo will explain why each piece is considered to be historically significant. Lastly, …show more content…
“The glistening water, which is made to look like it is moving, adds life to the landscape, and extends a pleasing invitation to all viewers to take part in the scene.” This quote describes exactly how I would want to make the clients feel, invited into the office. The way this represents an Impressionist painting I believe, is how Alfred Sisley used the colors and how vibrant the colors are in the painting making it look like the water is actually moving. Out of all the Impressionist paintings, this one is personally my favorite.
Woman with a Parasol. The portrait “Woman with a Parasol” was also painted by Claude Monet (1840-1926) in 1875. This one is a little different but has features of the last two, it is different because in the painting of the first two it was just nature but in this one there is actually persons in it. The way it is the same is that it does have nature surrounding the woman and the child, a very breezy look making it bright and warming to the environment of where the painting is placed which is why it would be a good look in the office and bring out the true environment we want for our office and …show more content…
This is also another painting by Vincent Van Gogh, I chose Van Gogh for all the Post-Impressionism paintings because of the way he uses the vivid colors and the distort form of expressive effect. “Van Gogh depicts the cycle of life in the sowing of the wheat against the field of mature wheat, there is death, like the setting sun, but also rebirth.” The clients may not be able to take this out of the portrait but they might be able to understand even though a partnership/relationship might die off, does not mean you can’t trust another company in the future.
I believe the six paintings that was just explained throughout this memorandum would be a perfect fit for the office because of how warming it makes you feel and how it would brighten up the room to make you feel at home. Also how together the paintings symbolize peacefulness, invitational, warming, bright, comfortable, happiness, devotion, loyalty and trustworthiness. All of these elements would really help bring out the intentions of the office and especially the company.
