We were stationed near I-96 and took radar for the remainder of the night. We cited over twenty vehicles and had some other intense moments. For one of the stops we pulled over a felon that had a firearm in the vehicle. At this moment, my heart was beating much quicker and the situation became much more serious. We radio into dispatch for a priority unit to back us up. We then arrested the individual and drove to the jail. Most of the night consisted on specifically traffic duty with a slight amount of citizen calls.…
In “A Sketch of the Policeman’s Working Personality,” Jerome Skolnick discusses and analyzes how a police officer’s personal outlook is affected by his or her involvement in police work, creating an “us versus them” mind-set, as well as the frequent inability to “turn off” the police mentality outside of a work environment. While he states that a person’s work has an impact on his or her outlook of the world according to a recurring theme in the sociology of occupations, police work has a particularly strong impact on those cognitive lenses (Skolnick, 1966, p. 2). Because of the nature of their job, police have a tendency to look at the world in a way that makes it distinctive to themselves. This can be associated with the danger that they face on a day-in, day-out basis, how their position as a police officer affects their social relationships, as well as how they are generally perceived by the public. Contributing to the overall working personality of a police officer is the need to be efficient, the continuous presence of potential danger, and the need to establish authority in the face of ever-present public relations issues.…
As a K-9 officer he not only has to protect his personal interests, he also has the worries of his service dog and the civilians he has promised to protect and serve. In addition to his personal concerns, Officer Huggins’ wife is also an officer in the Gwinnett County Police Department and combined have an exponential source of work related stress. C. Huggins (personal communication, August 2013). Interesting insight was provided through the interview with Officer Huggins, in that he not only described the work life sources of stress but also described the sources of stress from his off duty interactions with the general public and home life. This suggests that there are concerns to law enforcement personnel that are not associated with their work life but still hold the same weight, or even more, than the daily routine in…
The purpose of this paper is to examine the rationale behind police brutality in correlation to social perception of immunity for law enforcement. There have been multiple reports where civilians have stated that they did not get involved in a crime in progress or an incident of police brutality because they feel that the officer will not be punished. This presumption leads to not only a lack of accountability on the part of the officers, as they fear no reprimand, but also on behalf of the bystanders who subsequently facilitate a means for these behaviors to continue. Instead, these bystanders pull out their camera in hopes of attaining 15 minutes of fame. While fear may take precedent over all other reasons for not getting involved, for these…

Laws world wide are pretty strict when it comes to child abuse. More so, if the abuse is of sexual nature. Majority of people take moral high grounds when it comes to sexualization of underaged children, be it in the material world or behind a screen. However, majority of the same people do not even bother to avert their eyes from the screen or a comic and react when a five year old is depicted in a sexually fantasized scenario just because the content is artistic or animated. Such artistic content today are known as Lolita. “In 1955, Russian born author and Cornell University professor Vladimir Nabokov introduced the world to the idea of Lolita in his novel by the same name.
