On 12/02/2015 I, Detective Travis Fields made contact with Brandon Shoemaker at 316 W 17th ST, Galena, KS in reference to an incident that occurred the previous night. I asked Brandon to explain what all had taken place. Brandon stated he went to some property he owns, on Harrison LN, in Cherokee County with K.T Ashburn to burn some trash. While burning the trash, Brandon stated another vehicle pulled into the property. At this time Brandon took off into the woods to avoid an altercation.…

Cat #27. Attitude toward police work. Officer Lajoie and I investigated a child sex assault case on the previous, shift which required us to stay approximately 5 hours overtime. Officer Lajoie had also made two in custody arrests during prior to taking the abuse case and was not able to work on any of his report before going off duty. When he came in the next day, Officer Lajoie continued to maintain an excellent attitude. He worked diligently to catch up on his reports despite being interrupted several times by calls for service.…
The second borough that is involved many times in my book is the Bronx. The main protagonists, Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald, both very commonly visit the Bronx because their New York Detective Department is based there. The New York Detective Department has a relatively tremendous lobby with a vast amount of police workers walking all over the place. Another important place in the Detective Department is the room where they have meetings with the Mayor of New York and the chief of the New York Police Department, Chief Cates. It’s a very bright and bland room with basically a long rounded wooden desk inside. There is usually an off-setting mood in the room but it is very unnoticeable compared to the positivity and seriousness of our main…
William Bratton is currently the Commissioner of police in the City Of New York. Prior to this, he had also served the same post from the year 1994 to 1996 during which he bought a heavy decline in the city’s crime rate. During his previous term as commissioner, he embraced the “broken windows” theory which made his administration very successful. This theory stipulates that when a small offence like a broken window on a parked car, larger offenses such as burglary, robbery and assault inevitably follow. Serious crimes can be prevented if a community police’s the little things. While he was still a young police officer in Boston, one of his first strategies was to set up community…
On Monday, April 11, I went on a Ride-A-Long with Officer Jim Brooks who is a sergeant at the Taneytown police department. Initially, I was supposed to do the ride-a-long on Friday, April 8, However, Officer Brooks contacted me a few days before, explain to me that they had changed his shift and asked to reschedule the ride- along (which we did, till Monday April 11). This shows how flexible the police staff is, with changes occurring constantly and how they do not have consistent schedules. There are 5 shifts at the station, which each officer works. Taneytown, Maryland is about 2.5 square miles. The police station was built in November of 2002 and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. For each community within and…
There are multiple risks associated with being a police officer that all who choose to work this field must embrace. There is a commission in every state on peace officer standards and training. Each agency must meet the minimum standards required by the state. Once an officer has met those standards and gets hired, a lot of training hours are given to the officer for to gain the necessary knowledge and tools for be able to protect the citizens in their community against criminal activities. No matter how much training one can receive, there is nothing that can prepare them for every situation they could possibly encounter while on patrol. Officers routinely run the risk of sustaining injury or death when dealing with situations involving physical struggles and/or violent…
Throughout the history capital offenses, such as murder and rape have been a serious issue in the United States. The government has emplaced certain departments across the nation from the first formation of America, to combat the misconducts within the societies. Police officers are designated officials, in which carry out the order of law. Police departments have been broken down into categories of federal, state, and local police. Federal agents counteract the federal crimes, such as crimes…

The purpose of this paper is to examine the rationale behind police brutality in correlation to social perception of immunity for law enforcement. There have been multiple reports where civilians have stated that they did not get involved in a crime in progress or an incident of police brutality because they feel that the officer will not be punished. This presumption leads to not only a lack of accountability on the part of the officers, as they fear no reprimand, but also on behalf of the bystanders who subsequently facilitate a means for these behaviors to continue. Instead, these bystanders pull out their camera in hopes of attaining 15 minutes of fame. While fear may take precedent over all other reasons for not getting involved, for these…
Police brutality is a horrible situation that has seemed to stay consistant throughout the years. But at the same time it is also very confusing. A lot of times it is minorities that are involved in police brutality which is a sad situation. It is sad because it creates the question of whether it is becuase of their color, or because they deserve it. Many think that these situations are cruel and racist.…
The goal of the criminal justice service is to protect the public, handle convicted offender in a proper way and give equal treatment. The United States has the largest incarceration rate in the world compared to other countries. More taxpayer is having to waste more money because of how much it cost to run the criminal justice system. The criminal justice system is ineffective because of bias law enforcement, mass incarceration and unfair court system…
There are 2 ways to look at this scenario. One as a member of a police force who doesn't want to be labeled as a "rat". And a human who wants to do what is right and uphold the law. Part of the police officers code of ethics says that they will act morally and ethically at and outside of the job. (Pollack, 2015). With that being said, an officer's responsibility is to uphold the law and to help enforce it. However, we do not always do what is right. I am sure what is said in the captains office is private and confidential and would tell the information I knew. Isn't the whole reason the officers are mad is because the original officer didn't stand up for his friend and ratted on them? Then who should stand up for this officer being bullied…
