dediuvbeuivhsnjvndsijvncijsdncuidejncdsHOW TO STOP BAD HABIT
A habit is an acquired behavior or thought pattern that you have repeated so many times that it has become almost unconscious. As you likely already know, habits can be both helpful and harmful.Habits are beneficial because they're automatic. We engage in habits without thinking, which frees our brains up to focus on other things. When we have good habits, like arriving at work on time or being optimistic, we create a positive, ingrained forward motion that we don't have to think about. We can then use our energy to focus on things that need our special attention.
However, the same is true of bad habits. We engage in these behaviors without much thought, and they can damage our personal lives and careers without us being aware of them. In fact, some of these bad habits can actually become physical addictions.

Habit number 1 is Be Proactive, in the book it states that Be Proactive means; “I am the force”, and “Take responsibility for your life.” One of the biggest things I came away with from this habit is being responsible for your own behavior; past, present and future. This habit is significant for my personal like so I make choices based on values and principles and not by peer pressure. Be Proactive is a helpful habit, so you choose not to be a victim or blame others for your mistakes. Next is another one of my favorite habits, Put First Things First.…

    John Dewey Habits and Will

According to John Dewey, Habits are inevitable. We are empowered by both good and bad habits. In his essay, “Habits and Will”, Dewey states that we envision bad habits as such acts of “foolish idling, gambling, addiction to liquor and drugs”, and we associate good habits with skills such as walking, playing a musical instrument, and typing. We see bad habits as desires and good habits as abilities that “exist far from our impulsive desires”. Bad habits are not deliberately formed and are also hard to break. Dewey explains that will power alone is not enough; one must follow a specific method to turn habits around. I feel that I, someone who tends to get distracted easily and procrastinate, should benefit from Dewey’s habit-breaking method.…

Addiction is a worldwide epidemic. Many people in all parts of the world have addictions. Whether it be gambling, exercise, illicit drugs, shopping, or sugar. Studies show that nearly 80% of people have some sort of an addiction. I have always found addiction and addictive behavior to be very interesting. Some addicts are believed to have been born with an addictive personality. People born with addictive personalities are thought to form problematic, unhealthy, addictions much easier and much earlier in life. Some even have multiple addictions at the same time. Some people do things like run and exercise every day, but to the point that it is not healthy. When things like running or exercise have become not-so-healthy, it usually goes unnoticed. Most people do not see activities such as exercise as possible problematic, addictive, behavior, but anything that is done excessively can become unhealthy.” The unproblematic addictions are the ones that do not cause any problems. An unproblematic addiction would not cause any type of life disrupting issue and is not life threatening in any way, and those are the addictions that ok to have.…

Bad habits can range from biting your nails, to smoking so there are quite a lot of negative tendencies people can have. One particular example of this is shown in the short story “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” by James Thurber. Mitty’s habit is daydreaming. His vivid daydreams nearly cause him physical harm at two points in the story. The first instance is when his daydream happens behind the wheel of his car. If his wife had not snapped him out of it by saying “Not so fast! You’re driving too fast!” (Thurber 1), then he could have been in an accident. The second instance is once again when he is behind the wheel of his car, but this time he almost hit another car. This time, he is brought out of his dream by a parking attendant shouting “Look out for that Buick!” (Thurber 2). There are many habits that people have that cause affect them negatively. It is a part of a person’s identity that can directly harm them. Some are severe and some are not as severe, yet they still negatively impact the…

In “The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business” by Charles Duhigg, he thoroughly explains to us how habits work. In Chapter 3 of “The Power of Habit” Duhigg first introduces us to “The Golden Rule”. The rule states that you cannot adopt new behaviors, but slowly change the routines of those behaviors. Belief can also play a huge part in changing these behaviors. Without belief, people will not have the motivation they need to be able to change the routine of their behaviors. For example, anybody can say that they will quit smoking, but if they don’t really have the motivation to quit they will probably just keep on smoking. By accepting new behaviors it doesn’t have to be difficult if theirs cues and rewards are the same. People just need to believe and focus on changing their routine and slowly their bad habits will change.…
