Okonkwo A Tragic Hero In Things Fall Apart

A tragic hero is described as one who faces adversity or demonstrates courage and faces a downfall as well. In the book “Things Fall Apart” by Chinua Achebe Okonkwo is a tragic leader who is faced with many hard decision due to the British colonization of Nigeria. Okonkwo is a tragic leader because his actions involve the wellbeing of others and he recognizes his tragic flaws and gains the sympathy of the audience. Okonkwo brought much honor to his village. In the book it says “He was a man of action and war.”(pg.10) “He had brought honor to his village.” (pg. 3) In the book he did a lot for his village and that is why they honored him.
