Okonkwo killed Ikemefuna because he didn’t want to be thought weak.
The first reason Okonkwo greatly fits the definition of a tragic hero is because there are some chapters of the book “Things Fall Apart” that illustrates Okonkwo heroic action towards his daughter Ezinma. We see evidence from the text when Ezinma was taken by Chielo. She took Ezinma to Agbala, but Okonkwo and Ekwefi followed. At the end of the waiting for Chielo’s return from the shrine,
Okonkwo saved her daughter. This evidence supports my claim because it shows that Okonkwo has some good in him and the evidence also shows that Okonkwo cares about his family. Secondly, Okonkwo greatly fits Aristotle’s definition of a tragic hero because Okonkwo is known to be a short tempered human being and he is also filled with pride which causes a downfall for him. He was afraid of being thought weak. Because of Okonkwo’s pride, it led him to commit a crime which led to his downfall between the relationships he has with his son Nwoye. The third reason Okonkwo can be consider a tragic hero is because Okonkwo grew up from a poor family with a lazy father. Okonkwo and his family were banned from Umuofia for seven years, because he killed the son of the warrior accidently. This
