There were many consequences to this and was clearly a bad decision, Okonkwo was exiled from the land along with his family for seven years. The first decision was, killing his adopted son Ikemefuna to prove his bravery, which resulted in his son, Nwoye to despise his father, and eventually converted to Christianity. This was a decision that he shouldn’t have made and was a drawback in his career. The second decision was, firing his gun at a fellow warrior’s funeral, if he hadn’t shot his gun, the boy wouldn’t have died. The death of the boy is what made Okonkwo leave Umuofia for seven years. Okonkwo had definitely regretted that decision, because he could’ve accomplished so much in that time, but had it wasted with his kinsmen. The last and final decision of his was killing the white man’s messenger, that doesn’t sound like much, comparing it to all the other people he killed, but this decision had influenced the commitment of his suicide. After killing the messenger Okonkwo felt prideful, due to the fact that he got the job done, but afterwards he realized that all of his reputation was gone, so he decided to kill himself.
