Olaudah Equiano Thesis

The third thesis topic is Equiano narrative attracted much attention, and the right attention. Once Equiano settled down after he bought himself out of slavery he starting writing a book about his slave experience and his life. Equiano did everything he could to attract the attention of society to share the issue of slavery. He caught major attention from British political leaders, and he attracted numerous of readers across the world. Furthermore, Equiano writing skills has also caught readers’ attention. His writing style has been seen in other popular literature documents. Equiano shares his experience through his work as a testimony of suffering of slave trade and slavery during those times. He wrote this autobiography to tell slaves are also human beings and their lives matter. He flourished by bring awareness of slave life and the slavery operations, and increased abolishment movement. Olaudah Equiano overall message for his autobiography is to inform readers of the mistreatment of slaves throughout slave trade and slavery. Mentioned previously of the quote that Equiano stated “misery of slavery to such a mockery of freedom”. Readers might question this because even though Equiano was enslaved, however his life was easier compared to the slaves he witnessed were sold off and mistreated. Equiano was also sold to different slave owners but his owners gave him many of privileges. The question is how can he makes such a statement if he really didn’t experience much of other slaves had went through? I believe the point of this quote was to show the fear of being re capture and bought back into slavery.
