Olivia Peguero
For my project I chose to research Olivia Peguero. She was born in the Dominican Republic. She is an oil painter and sculptor. Olivia Peguero grew up in two small towns in the Dominican Republic. These towns were Miches, on the east coast, and Las Salinas in the south east. She attended Mahatma Gandhi Secondary School in Santo Domingo. After graduation she moved to New York to join her parents who immigrated a few years prior. There, she attended Mercy College and got her Bachelors Degree in Management Information Systems. Extending her education, she completed a Bachelors Degree of Fine Art Studio Painting from Florida Atlantic University, Florida. She also got a Bachelors Degree in Business, MBA from Nova University, Florida. Olivia’s early work and training focused on mastering traditional architectural, botanical and landscape methods. She was influenced by the Dutch Master style. Today, she is associated as only tropical or island oriented. While growing up, Olivia was isolated from arts. Her school in the Dominican Republic didn’t have the supplies to teach fine arts. Because of this, she founded the Peguero Arte Libros Foundation US and the Art Books for Education Project that focuses on art education for young Dominican children in rural areas. These children are not exposed to and do not have the opportunity to learn fine arts such as: painting, sculpture, poetry and story writing. The goal of the programs are to supply rural schools with a set of Spanish language art books that cover painting, sculpting, poetry and story writing. The program gives the library the books but if they don’t have a library, it’s the start of a long term collection to benefit all students. In conclusion, my opinion of Olivia Peguero’s art is that it is beautiful. Most of her paintings are of flowers or

Frida Kahlo De Rivera (1907- 1954), was a Mexican artist whose works “were strongly linked with her own life experiences, whilst also relating to world events, politics and the wider art world.” Kahlo is best known for her self-portraits, they demonstrate her need for self-expression and her exploration of identity. Although her physical features and eccentric costumes are striking and eye-catching, it is her internal life that explodes beyond the canvas. Kahlo’s unique portrait style jumps straight to the art of profoundly felt passions and sorrows. “Juxtaposing the familiar with the strange, marrying naturalistic depiction with bizarre symbolism, Kahlo is able to convince us…
