“That’s the same building which was blown up in Independence day!”, just a whole lot bigger, dumber and stupider than the “boringly straight-faced” Olyumpus Has Fallen. Roland Emmerich has wrecked the world more than any other director, with aliens in Godzilla and continent-killing in 2012, it’s not surprising that he death-raid’s the White House again in this latest film “White House Down”. However, don’t get too excited about the “hottest flick on the block” (critic) because I was extremely disappointed with this newest ‘apocalyptic’ film. Maybe it’s time to give up deconstructing the world Roland Emmerich, because you surely didn’t do a good job in this elongated, cliché-riddled and unrealistic film.…
Troy Maxson, from the play Fences, is an ordinary man. Through ignorance and selfishness he proves this point over and over again throughout the play. As a result, he could never amount to a great man; therefore; Troy Maxson is not a tragic hero.…
The book, American Sniper, by Chris Kyle is an informative story of the life of Kyle and the delimas he went through in and out of the war. Kyle was extremely effective in showing the reader what the life of a Navy SEAL was like, both what he went through while at war and the controversies he went through out of service. The authors main point of writing the novel is to show everyone a SEAL’s point of view of war, instead of the “propaganda” seen on the news. Kyle shows the main points of the book by establishing his own credibility, showing the purpose behind novel, and defining his tone toward the subject.…
The movie made Ender Wiggen look like a budding sociopath who's waiting for the appropriate time to explode all over his friends and classmates. Had it not been for the military coming and getting Ender out of there, there would have been a massive bloodbath.…
Black Hawk Down is a book by Mark Bowden, who is a journalist that documented the Battle of Mogadishu in his book. It is less of a story, and more of a collection of different accounts and recollections of people that were fighting in that battle. It is written as though the reader is a 3rd party, but they are also right there within the action. The book starts with the explanation of many of the people's backgrounds that will become a major part in the book to follow. During these introductions, the author explains what each other thinks about themselves, their comrades, and the war they are fighting in, as well as their thoughts for the battle to come. Many of the people were actually excited for the battle that…

Brian’s Song and Remember the Titans are not just stories about football but about much more. These books show what it truly is to be a team. Team is about everyone sticking up for one another and forgetting about differences. I have always had the motto in my head as team meaning Together Everyone Achieves More. In these stories you can tell that motto is slowly but surely shining through. Think about it this way if you are on a team and your starting player breaks there leg the night before the championship game your team has to work even harder to make up for the missing player. That is what happened in Brian’s Song and Remember the titans. They both had to come together in this way but also…
John Dower's War Without Mercy talks about the racial conflict in War World II towards the Japanese and how it affected the war and the reconstruction of the Pacific. “The Japanese were more hated than the Germans before as well as after Pearl Harbor. On this, there was no dispute among contemporary observers. They were perceived as a race apart, even a species apart -- and an overpoweringly monolithic one at that. There was no Japanese counterpart to the 'good German' in the popular consciousness of the Western Allies." (8) Mostly he focused on the American atrocities than the Japanese atrocities during the Pacific war.…
Have you ever done something bad which caused a huge problem for your family? In the tragedies, Antigone, and Oedipus the King by Sophocles, both Oedipus and Creon are the causes for deaths in their families.…
In the play Antigone by Sophocles, every character has its position and they demonstrate it through their actions. Haemon is Creon’s son, he is engaged to Antigone at the beginning of the story. He is a strong character that doesn’t cause many problems but stands for what he believes in. Some might argue he is naive but he actually just stands for what he thinks is right. He tries to reason with his dad, threatens in order to get his way, and actually does as he says. The decisions that Haemon takes indicate how he doesn’t back up on what is important to him.…

So then the question becomes why choose this particular film. The answer is that people are able to relate to this movie on so many more levels than one. For an example, the main character faces adversity within himself and this is relatable to everyday people. Those of whom are fighting internal battles for peace of mind. This movies reminds all people that a war, though long at times, can be won as long as the will and desire to win never leaves. Antwone Fisher is a walking testimony which embodies courage. Also a deeper point should be duly noted: Dark days come to all, but remember just as the sun set it will too eventually…
In the play ‘’Antigone’’ ,written by Sophocles, the major concept was that the laws of the gods take priority over the laws of man. In the story Creon’s pride and inability to listen to others leads to his downfall and Antigone’s faithfulness to the laws set by the gods instead of the laws set by Creon leads to her end.…
This film opened my eyes to so much of what really happened in the Middle East. I always wondered about how much thought actually went into planning such a war. For World War II they spent about two years planning coming up with the best strategies, and different scenarios for the war in Iraq we only spent about 50 days in advance planning our strategy. I find that incredibly arrogant and at nothing else a sense of cocky swagger the United States has. When we first entered Iraq many Iraqi’s were extremely happy to see change happening in the form of troops being deployed. They thought there was finally going to be change and a better future ahead of them. All of this greatly changed very rapidly after they soon realized that the United States really had no idea what they were even doing there. The United States made many mistakes during this war. One of those mistakes happens right off the bat. After invading and establishing its presence in the Middle East. Iraq essentially became a lawless country. There were no police and the U.S. troops even encouraged people to loot local government buildings. This quickly got out of control create essentially organized crime. Basically it was people with guns against people without them. This all happened because for some reason after invading the United States army never established marshals law. In fact they where given express orders not to stop looters saying we are not there as a police force we are only there to get in and get out.…
