Housing is another impact. This is accompanied by extensive rules and regulations about visitors, off-campus trips, and curfews. I am an only child of my parents and have not shared a room in eighteen years. Living on campus and sharing a room with another is helping me to interact on a more social level with the diversity of students that are enrolled. This will definitely give me a head start for my freshman year, when more people will be here on campus. I have driven by this home college many times, but did not realize the beauty and purpose of the University of the Virgin Islands. Being on campus, have provided me with the knowledge of the campus, and have helped me to feel at home.…

It can be expensive to live on campus. First off, residential life/housing offices tend to require that your bill be paid in full with tuition which most likely means a loan, which while resulting in a single payment, will likely mean you are going to accrue interest while paying for on-campus housing. Secondly, in many situations you will be required to purchase a meal plan, another expensive ticket. If like some students, you have dietary restrictions, or even schedule restrictions, you may find that…

They are about 30000 students in VT and a majority student live off campus (about 2/3). As a freshman at Virginia Tech you are obligated to live on campus. It is actually understandable; you may actually prefer staying on campus but it is not going to be the case for many students. They maybe don’t consider freshmen mature enough to live off campus. A lot off students never lived completely alone before. On campus you still have some people who take care of you, for example RAs. Life on-campus is probably a transition to off-campus life. As I asked around in my hall a lot of students were convinced that they will live off campus, (out of the ten people I asked, 9 are already looking for off campus housing).…

Another reason that people think that going away to college is a bad idea that all students will do is party. Actually the truth is, students that are away to school get more work done than those living at home. Away at school you do not have the distractions that you would have at school. At school everyone is doing work, so there are times in a day that the library will be packed. But at a home environment not everyone is doing school or the amount of schoolwork that the college student will be doing. Then will most likely have distractions from their parents, siblings, and friends.…
