On Steep of the Mountain
On the Steep of the Mountain
Everyone wants to climb the top of the mountain. But all the happiness really happens while climbing it.
Goodbye high school era, hello college life! But before the next milestone starts I still have seventy plus days to drain. And how should a soon to be freshman in college spend those days? Should I make myself more active on social media sites? Do I need to join various orientations or attend review classes? How about going out, like go to beaches, resorts or any place that I can find peace and serenity? Or should I rather chill and relax at our house to reminisce everything before I leave?
Questions flooded, but answers are kept. Well not anymore for the next paragraphs will make that part simple and clear.
First few weeks were spent normally, just like any other students who really waited for this vacation to come. And what will you expect, I watched television all day, when I’m in the mood I surfed through the net, slept as late as possible, likewise woke up until I fulfilled my sleeping needs, and of course, ate like no one cares.
Here comes the filling part for my summer vacation. In 20 working days, I joined the Special Program for the Employment of Students, SPES for short, a program brought by the Department of Social Welfare Development or DSWD in accordance to the Republic Act 7323.
Maybe it sounds that it will end as fast as the snap of our fingers, but actually those days felt longer than anyone can ever imagine. I found myself working with other people, get to know them all, and do everything the administrators command you to accomplish. I experienced to work as a government employee, and I’m going to tell you it was never been that easy, you'll need to exert super duper more effort and strictly obey their rules and regulations so that you can earn a great evaluation at the end of the said program.
What will I earn from there? A salary of about 6000 pesos and don't expect that it was given right away. I think

"Beyond mountains, there are mountains." The Haitians use this term to express when an obstacle has been overcome, the next one follows almost immediately afterwards. In life, this usually seems to be the case. Many people’s solution to a complication is to surrender to it. Paul Farmer is an exception to this. He is a man that has persevered through life, battling his own problems, while drastically improving and saving the lives of thousands. Farmer’s eminent passion for treating unhealthy patients was never deterred by the obstacles he faced in the poverty stricken countries such as Haiti.…

    The way to Rainy Mountain

In Scott Momaday’s introductory paragraph of “The Way to Rainy Mountain” he uses figurative language to show his love for the land in Oklahoma. As a Kiowa, he describes the land with such intimacy, that it seems as if he owns the land and he is one with the land. He starts the paragraph with a descriptive image of the Wichita Range: “A single knoll rises out of the plain in Oklahoma”. He describes the weather with extreme exaggeration, “winter brings blizzards, hot tornadic winds arise in the spring, and in the summer the prairie is an anvil’s edge” or at least how it feels to him as a resident of this area. Through this we see the intensity of the weather, and how brutal it is. As a result “The grass turns brittle and brown, and it cracks beneath your feet”, the author uses alliteration here to liven up the deathly image we see. The alliteration creates a playful contrast between what the words mean and how they sound. He also uses excellent word choice “The steaming foliage seems to almost writhe with fire”. With this he is able to capture the intensity of visible hot pain the weather causes on the plants.…
