Andy a 16yr old boy who is currently lying on the sidewalk bleeding after he was stabbed by a guardian. He began to think about life how much he has left to live. His girlfriend Laura is hurting him to think about what he has done to her. In this text there are individuality, prejudice and violence.
Andy regrets joining a gang, in this text he says “it seemed very important to him that he take off the Purple jacket” this proves that being in a gang didn’t mean that you are tough. To be tough left him lying on the sidewalk bleeding. This story effects male readers by realizing wanting to be tough is not cool.
Andy was attacked because of his purple jacket saying the Royals the quote “that’s for you royal” proves that the purple jacket he took has now left him lying on the concrete. They wanted to kill the jacket not Andy. They prejudiced him and since he was wearing that jacket he was a goner to them. The text made an impression on me that how easy it is to get judged for what you wear not about you but because you chose to wear a jacket that got him killed.
Being in a gang doesn’t mean you are tough it means that you are a death wish. Waking up in the morning and putting on that purple jacket doesn’t make you cool. Andy learnt the hard way that being tough wasn’t worth his life, when someone offers you to be in a gang think wisely about Andy and how it ended for him.
