E.B. White, The author of “Once More to the Lake” argues that after returning to the lake with his son after many years or generations of visiting the lake with his own father bought back historic memories. One very important aspect or main idea of E.B. White story is concerning the passing of time and changes that it brings to him and his son while visiting the lake. He very much recalls and remembers his childhood at the lake with his father as an “infinitely precious and worth saving” (White 166) experience and while he returns with his own son he hopes to capture the same memories before. He lets his audience know that” there has been no passage of time” (White 165), he depicts it as being “only the illusion of it as in a drop curtain” (White 165). He wants his reader to picture exactly what he saw and experienced firsthand, he wants them to get a feel of his pleasure every time he replays the unforgettable moments with his father. He portrays this to his audience by comparing and contrasting the characteristics of the lake, and makes it clear to the reader that he will never forget the small things like “small waves” (white 164) and “the same color green and the ribs broken in the same places, and under the floorboards the same fresh water leavings and debris…” (White 164). He in fact cherished many of the special moments that he and his father shared years ago. White wants to recreate the cherished moments he had. He hopes to keep those memories with his farther and relive the moments with his son as if it was him and his father. He as well knows that deep down nothing can ever stay the same.
I realize how special time should be in all aspects of life. A person should cherish the moments that bring peace to their life, not try to recreate them. Special memories can never be duplicated if so then they would not be called memories. For instance, graduating from high school should only happen once in a lifetime; therefore, one should not go back in the past and try to relive
