Cancer has always been a problem is people and animals. No one knew what the problem was until 1761, when Giovanni Morgagni did the very first autopsy on a body. The very beginning of Oncology just started with surgery and removal. Over time doctors found different ways to get rid of cancer. Many things have changed in Oncology but the goal for the doctors has still stayed the same; do everything you can to help the patient.

1. Communication skills, you need to have communication skills because it makes relating complex information much easier. 2. Interpersonal skills, you need to have interpersonal skills because it puts patients at a greater ease. 3. Collaborative skills, you need to have collaborative skills because many times oncologists end up working with a group of people. 4. Medical Skills, you need to have medical skills for many reasons, the main reason is that you must determine what type of cancer a patient has and determine the best treatment for them. 5. Empathy, this is a good skill because the patient will know that you are there for them and they might trust you more.
Oncologists make around 264,700 a year. Residents are allotted around 15 total days of paid time off for personal vacation, holidays and sick leave. This job is usually paid as a salary position. Oncologists have to work around 6 hours per week. Oncology does not require any travel.
There are many challenges of this career but here are just three of them. 1. Many years of college and training. 2. Many hours to work. 3. Emotionally challenging. I feel like I can overcome all of these challenges.
