Ondell Southerland Analysis
Odell Southerland was born to William and Emily Southerland in 1879. He later met and married the former Kate Davis. Though there is little information about both his mother and father, his mothers parents were born in England.Together they had two children Margret and William. William died when he was 24. Margaret went on to marry Grady Cole, Cole who was a Radio personality. Margaret and Grady lived with Margaret’s parents, and they had two children Grady and Beverly. Though it is unclear what happens to Grady, Beverly goes to Florida to attend college, where she meets and marries Lloyd Russing, Russing and Cole would later divorce. Odell Southerland was located in Charlotte in 1911, specifically in the 5th ward of Charlotte. His address was 503 N Poplar St. It seems that Mr. Southerland’s residency stayed the same. Not only did his stay the same his children who also lived with him their addressed also stayed the same .
Where did your individual/household come from? Were they native Charlotteans or did they migrate to the city? If they migrated, why do you think they came to Charlotte? Did they bring anyone with them?
Odell Southerland was not originally from Charlotte, he born in Hickory, North Carolina. His wife Kate, was born in Pittsboro, North Carolina. It does not appear that he brought anyone to live with him when he first moved to Charlotte. It is unclear if him and his wife met while they were in Charlotte or before they actually moved to Charlotte .
