The movie opens with Radio pushing his cart through the street and shows a woman moving her child away from him, a man staring at him, and another man who almost runs him over calling him a “moron.” I liked that they started this way to establish what he goes through on a daily basis. Radio is constantly looking down allowing the viewer to realize that he has some sort of disability. Other times throughout the movie members of the town can be seen starring and laughing at Radio. The coach ignores their behaviors and continues his friendship with Radio despite what others think.…

put their arms in the air and wave them to the beat, he performed the song with high energy. After throwing the sunglasses he was wearing into the crowd, he sang numerous songs from his new album “All-American” such as “No Faith in Brooklyn” and “Top of the World.” He also performed my personal favorite, “Not a Robot” which he added a twist involving the live band. On top of all of his own songs he sang, he played a couple of other artists’ songs and added his own vibe to them. Miley Cyrus’s “Party in the USA” and The Beastie Boys “Fight For Your Right to Party”…

When you initially hear a song it is often difficult to understand the meaning of the song, and even in some cases the lyrics. This is where music videos can be very helpful. They put a story line with the lyrics. This allows the viewer to understand it much better. However, this was not always the case, as televisions have not always existed. It was a long time after the television had gained popularity that MTV came along, and MTV in turn was responsible for creating music videos. As television was a visual medium, it would thus require something to view. This resulted in the music video, which led many different artists to fame. One artist who has used music videos as advertisement was Modest Mouse,…

At the start of the video you notice the band in a room with fire burning on the walls, and then you hear the first line of the song “Sunshine, there ain’t a thing that you can do that’s gunna ruin my night” giving you a juxtaposition as he talks of nothing ruining his night, but fire representing destruction, ruin, rage, spite and anger.…

Using the juxtaposition of images and sounds, Moore has created a montage of images, to show what kind of "flawless" society America really is. At the same time, the song "What a wonderful World" plays, while the scene changes into a montage of images involving heavy gun violence, shootings and military forces in other nations. The song is a large contradiction to the images of violence and destruction. The major impact of irony takes place in the last scene, when the footage of the 9/11 attack is shown while the song continues to play and hits climax. This technique of juxtaposing images and music attracts the audience's attention, and clearly shows us that we are not really living in a "wonderful…

There are visual appeals in this video as the main characters life is shown in clips as he grows up. One clip shows him playing football with his father, another clip shows him playing spin the bottle, and fighting with his mom as a teenager. Macklemore uses these clips to show how this man is the same as every other teenager, despite being gay. The video goes on to show the man all grown up, working a job in his own office and having a boyfriend. These clips show that this man is just a regular man and that if the boyfriend wasn’t shown; no one would know the difference. Macklemore also expresses his feelings about religious and politics views toward gay marriage through visual techniques and powerful lyrics. “The right-wing conservatives think it’s a decision and that you can be cured with some treatment and religion”(Same Love). Gay marriage is a common battle between people that will probably never end. Some say that it is a decision to be gay; some say people are born with it. As Macklemore says, some people still consider it a disease and that it can be cured with religion or therapy. He challenges other’s religious and political views by giving his opinion about how they are wrong about being gay being a decision. Macklemore adds short video clips all the way through the music video of past historical controversies. He uses African American rights videos, women wearing illegal bathing suits,…

What I like most in this video is the use of pathos through the photos of the people who died from the car accident and the question at the end, “Was the message that important?”, because these are the scene that catches my attention and touched my feelings. I find it easier to convey the message that texting can wait because lives are more important. What I dislike about this video is that it failed to establish the trustworthiness of the people who did this video because it lacks information about them and how are they connected to the…

As the music video begins, the main character is in a depressing looking bathroom shaving his hair off, in preparation to put on the symbolic ski mask. He is doing this because of the unexpected loss of his car radio, which was a form of safety in his life. Assuming music is his escape from the world, he no longer has a way of listening to it. This forces him to be in silence with his thoughts, having to face his own problems. “I have these thoughts so often I ought to replace that slot with what I once bought cause somebody stole my car radio”(2:09-2:14 Twenty One Pilots). He wants to replace those troubling thoughts, but can only do so through music. The ski mask he puts on symbolizes the fact that he wants to hide himself from the world, in an effort to avoid confrontation with his problems. If he had music to help him through…

The documentary starts off by visualizing a young man who is gay, and who grew up in a predominantly white neighborhood. Although he grew up with the white majority, he decided to attend a university with a black majority. He then brings his new black friends to his hometown to meet his hometown friends as a social experiment. Everything ends up going well and they all hangout in a positive manner, then the producer asks some personal questions between both sides of the friends, like what his hometown friends were taught with they see minorities in their town and how this hangout changed their idea of "black people". Then the producer asks what it means when someone says the word ghetto, then his friends from school explain and start to cry, because the word is offensive. This story is truly saddening, and opens the eyes of the people to understand that stereotyping and being the majority or the minority is not the way things should be, that the world should be equal, not just seeing…

In the video it is very noticeable that the speaker is talking in an admonish tone. He is talking about an extremely serious problem, so to be more effective that tone is perfect for the video. The narrator is trying to make everyone understand the seriousness of this problem, and he does. From beginning to start he keeps the same tone which helps the audience put extra attention. The video sure it’s short but it’s straight to the point. This days people don’t feel like watching ten or even five minutes long videos. Making the video thirty seconds long was perfect.…
