Online Gaming

With the rising popularity of online gaming, there have been studies that point to these games being very addictive, therefore gamers invest a huge amount of time playing. “The negative impact of Internet use on adolescents has received much popular attention and has

also become a popular research topic”(Wen-Bin,Chiou). When people focus on the negative

elements of a subject, they ignore the positive benefits. In modern society excessive online gam-

ing is frowned upon and portrayed very poorly. In a South Park episode four children made a pact to get stronger on an online game they had started playing to defeat a player that consistently killed their avatars. As they invested their time into leveling up their avatars, they gained weight, got acne, and destroyed their social lives(Trey Parker). This is an exaggergetion. A very large amount of gamers do not end up how modern society assume they will. The truth is

a huge amount of people play online games and have great lives with no negative downfalls. A

television show called GameCrib shows the life of players who chose gaming as their career, but

also shows the positive side of being an proffessional gamer (Gamespot). Online gaming is just like any hobby, because it has positive benefits with corresponding negative factors.

In this essay, I will be going over various topics of online gaming so readers will under-

stand the aspects of online gaming in a whole new perspective, while creating a whole new, or solid-

ating perspectives they already had to begin with. Online gaming is not as simple as making an av-

tar and logging on to the game. Once you start, the deeper you become involved in the game, and

In Kate Chopin’s “The Storm,” we see a multitude of literary themes. The most important among those is her use of local color. This short story was written in the late nineteenth century at a time when women were to be seen, not heard. Chopin had a different outlook on life and it showed in her writing. Though some believe it may not have been her intention to use local color in her stories, she does. We see local color in the setting she chooses, the descriptive colors she uses, the plot of the story, and also though the narrator’s eyes.…

Video games and computer games (from here on both categories will be simply referred to as video games for simplicity) have entered the domain of pop culture fairly recently. Although the first video game was developed in 1958 by William Higginbotham, their popularity didn’t occur until the seventies with the appearance of Pac-man and Frogger in the arcades (Computer and Video Games). If the younger generation of video game consumers would take a look at what was out there when the video game boom begun they wouldn’t be able to understand what was so attractive (and addictive?) about Pac-man and Frogger? The truth is, video games from over three decades ago share the same basic principles with the games we have out there right now. Let’s face it, we like video games because they provide us with interactive entertainment. In other words, we’re genuinely entertained by colorful objects that move on the TV/computer screen when we press certain buttons. I suggest that it is the overwhelming gratification that we experience from actually having absolute and unconditional control over something in our lives. Another suggestion that I have is that video games share the same elements or even directly imitate traditional games such as tag, ping-pong, chess, hopscotch etc.; video games allow us to engage in these games easily, without any stigma or significant effort on our parts. Video games are fun, inexpensive, can become a social activity allowing friends to play along, and sometimes they’re even mentally stimulating if not challenging. They’ve been a real hit every since they came out and today the video game industry has grown significantly. However, let’s examine the circle of people that are involved in production and design of video games.…

Now that technological companies all over the world have set most of the seven billion individuals in the world with a computer, smartphone or tablet, it is time for better software to use with them. This is where games come in. Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello stated in a recent interview that PC gaming is the ‘fastest growing platform’. This shows the growing interest in gaming bearing in mind that gamers also have the means to play on. The term ‘gamer’ refers to an individual that plays a game or games, typically a participant in a computer or role playing game. The gaming community has grown so wide in the last few years because of the shift from single player games to multiplayer games on the internet but yet has to claim its spot as a sport as a result of its mental benefits in place of sports being stereotyped as physical health fitness. Mentioned in this essay will be the effects of the gaming engine Steam by Valve also the comparisons between countries that encourage gaming in addition to those which do not, concluding with the benefits of playing games.…
