EXAMPLE OF MULTI-USER OPERATING SYSTEM
The common examples of multi-user operating system' include VMS, UNIX, and mainframe operating systems which include MVS system. A single user multi-tasking operating system is an operating system is capable of allowing multiple software processors to run at the same time.
EXAMPLE OF NETWORK OR DISTRIBUTED SYSTEM
Short for Network operating system, NOS is the software that allows multiple computers to communicate, share files and hardware devices with one another. Some examples of network operating systems include Novell NetWare, Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, Sun Solaris, Linux, etc.

An operating system capable of supporting and utilizing more than one computer processor. Some examples of multiprocessing operating systems are Linux, Unix, Windows 2000.

SOME examples of a single user OS include DOS, CP/M, AppleDOS, Geos, MacOS before OS/X, Windows1-3, and Windows 95/98.
EXAMPLE OF REAL-TIME SYSTEM
Real-time operating systems that I have come in contact with, in order of (subjective) impact: VxWorks, QNX, eCos, RTLinux. Especially VxWorks has a long history in critical applications - for example, in cars and various NASA space platforms. It is however neither free nor open source software - I would probably prefer eCos or RTLinux in one of my own projects.
