Although Robert E. Lee, Commanding General of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, was on the losing side of the Civil War, people still recognize him as a war hero due to his successful battlefield tactics and maneuvering. However, in July of 1863, Union forces defeated the Army of Northern Virginia at the Battle of Gettysburg causing a pivotal moment in the course of the war. Analyzing Gen. Lee’s failure at the Battle of Gettysburg through the principles of Mission Command will help determine why he was unsuccessful. Today, the principles of Mission Command are the standard by which military leaders…
Operation Ceasefire was composed of two fundamentals. First the operation was established to have a direct attack on gun that are being illegally transported. It wanted to put a stop on the traffickers who were supplying guns to the juveniles. In addition, it wanted the local, federal and state agencies to focus on guns illegally being transported within the states boundaries and not just on guns coming in from adjacent states. This operation brought attention to the types of guns the gang members used more often. Furthermore, Operation Ceasefire wanted to provide help to determine the serial numbers of those guns that had been seized with a demolished code. They hoped that determining these serial numbers investigators have a greater possibility to locate traffickers (National Institution of Justice, 2001, pp. 1-2)…

The number of dead in Vietnam was 58,000 and wounded is estimated to be around 300,000. Countless Vietnam veterans were psychologically scared, while other was embittered by poor treatment the public gave them when they came home. After reading The Things They Carried and watching Forrest Gump, Full Metal Jacket, my perspective has changed considerably about the Vietnam War.…
Evoked by the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1992, the Bosnian War is a clear representation of ethnic conflict gone horribly wrong. Spanning from 1992 to 1995, it demonstrated on of the worst displays of mass ethnic cleansing in Europe since World War II. Mainly perpetrated against Bosniaks by the Serbs, the Bosnian War left the country of Bosnia in ruins and left millions displaced and thousands killed. John Moore’s Behind Enemy Lines portrays the final days of the war as an American navigator attempts to get out of dangerous enemy territory. Due to the fact that this film focuses on the experiences of US soldiers and that slight differences are made between this movie and the historical event, the connections between the two are not always very…
Foreign- Bush was successful with foreign affairs. Bush devoted much of his time to foreign affairs, an area over which Presidents generally have more latitude than they do with domestic affairs. When Bush became President in 1989, the United States had already begun to see a thawing of relations with the Soviet Union. President Bush sent American troops into Panama to overthrow General Manuel Noriega, who was threatening the security of the canal and the Americans living there. Noriega was brought to the United States for trial as a drug trafficker.…
The 2003 invasion of Saddam Hussein’s Iraq by the United States will be viewed as failure by future generations. The United States absolutely had to take action to secure the unstable nation of Iraq, however the invasion was poorly planned and had tragic effects that would haunt the area for decades to come. After the invasion the United States made the unfortunate decisions to disband the Iraqi Army and remove all Baathist-party affiliates from their positions. The very critical successes that came from the aggressive actions of the U.S. were that Saddam Hussein was removed from power, terrorist organizations were disrupted, and Sunni soldiers and Iraqi forces worked with the United States military. It is obvious that these successes are tremendous…
