No more Mini Miss!
Beauty contests are popular these days. Girls would do anything to win a small title or a big one like Miss Universe. I just found out about a new type of competition called Mini Miss. Instead of being for adults, it’s open to everyone aged from one month to eighteen years old! Isn’t that crazy? Your child could be 2 months and would be able to participate! I think that the Mini Miss contest should not exist and definitely not promoted everywhere. The article ‘’ Does this fit our ‘values?’’’ by Celine Cooper1 really inspired me to have that position about this problem.
First of all, at this young age, kids have so much more to do than doing everything to win a first place in a contest. Indeed, when I was younger, every day was a great day to play outside, to do sports, to see my friends and to do family activities! We were always finding a way to make the games more interesting, for example, by playing with a fruit instead of a ball when we played baseball! At this age, kids should do activities that develop their creativity, that are making them laugh and that teach them team spirit! By entering in the Mini Miss world, the little girls are not enjoying the fun of being a child; they’re always doing the same things! Every day they get prepared for contests, they try new make-up, new hair styles and new clothes while they should play outside and try new activities!
Also, the Mini Miss competitions do not learn young people good values. Beauty contests encourage competition and make a lot of contestants hate each other. It’s a fact that at a young age, a child will be mad at the winner for winning instead of him or her. In addition, when they compete, young girls are not learning respect: not only they don’t respect their own
