The Parable of the Sower (Mark 4:1-9) is a parable that describes the different reactions of Christians when they are faced with the good news and the word of God. Some people accept the word of God but don’t make use of it in their life, others deny the word of God completely and finally, some people accept the word of God and flourish with it. The parable suggests that everyone has different opinions and views on particular topics and it is human nature to not always agree with everyone. The people that flourish with the word of God is what Jesus is trying to encourage more Christians to do. This parable paints Jesus as a humanist as he is encouraging others to spread the word of God and to spread love in which shows that he supports the true meaning of life, which is to love one another and to make the world a better place. Jesus’ integrity is reflected in the way in which he is advocating that people spread the word of God in order to enter the Kingdom of God. This reinforces the idea that all Christians must follow Jesus’ teachings and obey God in order to experience an everlasting life in Heaven with God and Jesus. His compassion and selflessness is represented in the miracle “Jesus Cleanses a Leper” (Mark 1:40-45) through the way in which he heals a man that he only just met. Jesus is portrayed as a compassionate man as he shows concern for the man suffering from leprosy and as a result, he decides to heal him. By healing the man, Jesus got rid of his pain in which would help the man live his life more peacefully. Many people would have ignored the man with the leprosy whereas Jesus didn’t ignore him, instead he listened to what the man had to say. This also shows Jesus’ compassion and courage, as he didn’t discriminate against the man, even though he had an infectious disease. By doing this, Jesus is representing the type of life that we all should be living. It is a life full of compassion, love, courage and integrity and Jesus encourages us to include everyone and to love all our brothers and sisters. It shows that we must help those out in need and those that are less fortunate instead of ignoring them. Jesus told everyone that he healed not to tell others that he was the one that healed them which is clear in this passage when he says, ““See that you say nothing to anyone.” He said this as he didn’t want anyone to misunderstand what it meant for him to be the Messiah.
