Being a female in the 21st century is no easy task. I’ve read so many stories of girls getting raped, women being paid less than men for the same work, and ladies getting called “slut” for wearing something that this patriarchal society deems inappropriate. But beyond this issue of female oppression lies a tangled web of other problems.
Throughout the history of mankind, females are always deemed lesser being than men. Males, being physically stronger due to biological differences, assumed dominance. From a matriarchal society, we became a patriarchal one where men are viewed superior than women. I asked myself, why is it okay to view a man’s nipple but it is considered vulgar if a lady shows her breasts?
Even more enraging are people who comment that women should not breastfeed in public. This is so frustrating. The breasts’ main function is to produce milk, not to satisfy the sexual cravings of a dirty mind.
The reason behind all of these is simple: the sexualization of the female body. It’s like every man wants to see a woman naked but when a lady shows her body, well, someone’s a hoe.
Feminism is not just about women being greater than men because this very definition fails feminism’s real purpose: gender equality. The true essence of the movement is to make every opportunity equal to all gender and race. (Real feminists are not white feminists *ehem* Taylor Swift)
The discrimination against gay people is rooted on disrespect towards women. An example here is a guy who wears skirts. He often gets more bullied than a girl who wears pants.
