Oprah Winfrey selection as the subject of this case study is associated with the idea that education, hard work, and persistency pays off when it comes to progressing in life. Overcoming hardships and adversities in life are part of a person’s development to achieve greatness, and these are true American values that are exemplified through her life.

Personal Life & Education. Orpah Gail Winfrey (Oprah Winfrey) was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, on January 29, 1954, to unwed teenage parents, Vernon Winfrey, a mine worker and barber, and Vernita Lee, a maid. Oprah lived in her grandmother 's Mississippi farm until the age of six. Later, she was sent to live with her mother in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Moving in with her mother placed Oprah in a difficult environment, one filled with the stress of rebellion, mistreatments, and abuse of several sorts. Work. Oprah’s hard work has led to her great fame, wealth, and prestige as a news anchor, talk show host, actress, philanthropist, and executive. Oprah 's most known projects have been “The Oprah Winfrey Show, Harpo Productions, O Magazine, Oxygen Network, Oprah 's Angel Network, Oprah 's Book Club, and Oprah Winfrey Network” (Harpo Productions, 2012).
C. Accomplishments. Oprah has many accomplishments; among her greatest are “her Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Color Purple in 1985” (MBC, 2012) and being the host of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” from 1986 to 2011. Her campaign for the “Oprah Bill” provided for the creation of a national database of convicted child abusers; the bill was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1993. Since 2003, Forbes has named her one of the wealthiest women in the world.
“Oprah received an honorary doctorate from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina in 2009” (Love, J., 2012). In 2010, she received the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts—Kennedy Center Honors (Harpo Productions, 2012). In 2011, the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honored Oprah with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award/Honorary Academy Award. Time Magazine name Oprah as one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World,” her eight time in “TIME’S 100 Most Influential People in the World lists” (Harpo Productions,
