An excellent reference book with lots of solved problems is The Schaum’s Outline Series book on "College Physics", 9th Edition, by Frederick Bueche. Homework: Homework assignments will be posted online. You will need to purchase access to the WileyPlus online homework service, unless you bought access last semester when you took physics 120 with me. I will give you 5 chances to type in the correct answer to the homework problems before the due date. You will have about 5 days to work on the posted online homework assignments. If you already have access to WileyPlus, you may use your old login username and password. Then you will need to register in my course by visiting the following URL: …show more content…

Each student will turn in his/her own report of the experiments at the time indicated by me. Each report must follow the guidelines spelled out in the lab manual posted on the course website. Quizzes: There will be approximately 10 short quizzes. Each quiz will cover 1 chapter. The quizzes will be given at the beginning of lecture and will last 20 minutes each. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped! Quizzes will be closed book, closed notes, and calculators are allowed. Make-up quizzes will not be given.

Examinations: There will be 3 examinations given throughout the semester AND a final exam.
The exams will be closed book, but the use of calculators will be allowed. Exam 1 Exam 2 Exam 3 Final Exam Chapters 18, 19 Chapters 20, 21, 22 Chapters 24, 25, 26 Chapters 18 - 32
Make-up exams will be given only if you are badly ill AND bring me a doctor’s note. If you get into a car accident on your way to the exam, you must bring me the police report. Make-up exams must be taken within one week of the missed exam. No exceptions!!! The course grade will be determined as follows: Laboratory reports Quizzes Online Homework 3 Exams 1 Final Exam
INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Define scientific terms and concepts precisely. Demonstrate the ability to communicate the principles of science and of physics to his or her peers. Critically evaluate scientific data and arguments encountered in daily life. Discuss the importance of scientific methods and the concepts of physics in Western thought. Demonstrate the ability to solve problems using the laws of mechanics, waves, and thermodynamics. Conduct simple science experiments using accepted procedures and methods. Evaluate and reduce experimental data and define its limits of validity. Construct a scientific conclusion from experimental
data.
