Organizational Circumstances Among Correctional Officers

In your example of the corrections officer being put in the position of having to report illegal circumstances among coworkers and those of higher power within the prison is a good example of a course of action that the officer would consider ethical yet difficult to do. Correctional officers are encouraged to work as a team in order to build high moral within the prison world (Hartman, 2003). Positive moral helps motivate correctional staff in a positive way (Hartman, 2003). Knowing that teamwork is encouraged in the correctional officers’ world would have a negative effect on the officers’ team when they are forced to turn in the coworker and the Having to report a fellow coworker and those of higher power for illegal circumstances

Large organizations such as corrections, hire large number of newcomers at one time, the organizational support is a must not only as socialization but also for training (Farnese, Bello, Livi, Barbieri, & Gubbiotti, 2016). This socialization forms a strong bond between correctional officers that will cause serious problems within the organizational support if an officer is put in the position to tell on their fellow officers (Farnese, Bello, Livi, Barbieri, & Gubbiotti, 2016). Correctional officers often deal with inmates who have blatant disregard for the officers. Working day after day in this subculture of often dangerous inmates, the correctional officer’s personal and professional lives are effected (Micieli, n.d.). As a Deputy Warden of a maximum-security prison, I can attest to this statement from personal experience. I can say personally that having to deal with some of the worse criminals’ day after day often places undue stress on the officer and affects their personal lives in
