Culture is established in the way people interact and communicate information. Leadership based on the companies values and goals are developed and ingrained into every day activities to become a core part of the communication and business procedures. When organizational politics are positive the influence has a positive effect on productivity and creates a work environment that people enjoy. Individual characteristics help to create a political environment for motivation and confidence. When employees are happy they are less likely to look elsewhere for the respect and benefits they need. There is not a company that does not have some political aspects going on. With the right leader distributing the responsibility and providing benefits so everyone feels engaged there is less need for employees to seek out ways to politically destroy or advance themselves at the expense of others.
Political behaviors used to influence the goals and decision-making process creates an environment of dishonesty and unethical behaviors among employees. Those in positions of power get away with these practices successfully at the expense of those unwilling to play the political game. The increase in job anxiety and stress from not engaging creates defensiveness and negativity in the workplace. When job satisfaction is low the likelihood of helping others and passing on knowledge or basic information decreases. The decrease in communication initiates lower productivity and increased employee turnover. When leaders are allowed to use illegitimate political behavior the goals of the company are harder to achieve.
