Oscar Romero Documentary Analysis

Romero, the film portrays the life of a protesting Archbishop Óscar Romero against the abusive government which cost his life. There are significant moments in the film where we could have a sight of the people’s perseverance against abolishing their violent government. No matter how much they knew that their life will be on the stakes they still pushed on fighting for their rights. Their tenacity on protecting and fighting for their rights is something which had caught my eye. Something very courageous to do but not many would even contemplate about it. Voicing out your opinion is already a difficult task to do, but imagine speaking your mind against your government, your government which has military powers. Would you still dare
stand up against them? Most people would answer no right away, but the people during Archbishop Romero’s time said yes. No matter how costly it will be they defended themselves and their people. An archbishop who has nothing to offer but only his words and support to the people was able to proliferate people to take a stand against the unfair, then why can’t we people of the modern world do so as well? We who have these technologies which make dissemination of information easier? Our determination will define us if we cannot fight for what we think is right we will remain slaves to whoever currently has the grasp on power. We cannot let ourselves be chained up in shackles, only we have the power to free ourselves from the bonds which are setting us away from our liberty. In the modern world we are still experiencing this inhumane activity such as the controversial extrajudicial killings, yes, they may get rid of the countries criminals but who’s to know if they really are one? If we do not speak for theses blamed souls, then unfairness would spread even more like wildfire.
