During the Victorian Era, Oscar Wilde was best known for his books and plays. One play is “The Importance of being Earnest”. Another was “The Ideal Husband” which was published in 1887. He also wrote “The Happy Prince”he wrote the book for his kids. His first play was Lady Windermere’s fan,which opened in 1892 is about a young mother who’s moral code that leads her to the brink of social suicide to save someone. Seven years after he wrote “Poems”. He published “The Happy Prince and Other Tales”. In 1891, Wilde published “Intentions” in the same year he wrote his only novel, “The Picture of the Dorian Gray”. It is now called great classic work when it first was published, critics were mad because of the lack of morality. His famous plays were “A Woman of No Importance”, “The Importance of Being Earnest”, and “An Ideal Husband”.

He was born on October 16,1854 and died on November 30,1900.His only novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray” which criticises didn't like at the time it was published because of the lack of mortality.He went to jail because of him being a homosexual,he was sentenced to two years in prison and when he got out he was broke.He stayed in cheap hotels and he stayed with friends.When he got out of prison,he wrote about his experiences in a poem called “The Ballad of Reading Gaol” it was published in 1889 and he went to exile in France (bio.com). He went back to dating Lord Alfred Douglas and started writing him love letters and he stopped writing for a while after he got out of prison except the poem “The Ballad of Reading
