Osmosis moves from an area of low concentration to high concentration. In osmosis water moves in the opposite way. Water flow is determined by the concentration, not the nature of the solute.
There are a couple of things to consider for diffusion to work. The size of the cell, permeability, molecules in the cell, and time it takes to diffuse. Processed bits of food diffuse in the colon.
Air in the lungs diffuses from the alveolar air space into the blood circulating around the lungs.
Carbon dioxide diffuses from the blood flowing everywhere in the lungs into the alveolar space.
Air diffuses from the blood cells in the blood stream into muscles. During …show more content…
The process of osmosis doesn’t stop till both solutions are equal in and out of the cell membrane. Osmotic pressure is needed to stop the process of osmosis. “The rate in which osmosis occurs depends on the temperature of the solution, the concentration of the solute, and the electrical charge of the solute.” Osmosis occurs in the large and small intestines. After you chew your food it goes down the esophagus and into the stomach. From the stomach it reaches the small intestines and osmosis begins taking valuable nutrients from the food. Most of the process of absorption takes place in the large intestines.
Both osmosis and diffusion are passive transport, which means they don’t use energy to move substances around the cell membrane. Osmosis is important to the body because it determines how the substances are spread around the body. Diffusion is important because without it we couldn’t
