Families play a large role in our world. Sometimes families keep you together but at other times they can tear you apart. The subject of family is a major theme in Khaled Hosseini's extraordinary novel, The Kite Runner and Shakespeare’s well-known tragedy, King Lear. In both of these writings, family is a constant theme that occurs throughout both works of literature. Family relationship is often expressed through the actions of the characters and by what they say. Although Shakespeare’s well-known tragedy, King Lear, has father figures, they do not act very fatherly. Khaled Hosseini’s fiction novel, The Kite Runner has better father figures. This can be proven by examining the different themes, how fathers from both works show compassion, acceptance and power.…

The relationship between Baba and Amir is a complex one as Baba reveals his role as a father, friend, and foe. Hosseini’s novel The Kite Runner explores this rollercoaster between Baba and his son Amir. As the novel unfolds, the lives of the characters unravel –as do their relationships and their sense of identity. Baba serves as an important link that connects each of the characters and also bridges the uncertain with the certain, lie with truth, pain with pleasure, servant with master, dark with light and then ultimately death with life. Each of these connections triggers strong emotions in Amir about feelings towards his father and how he feels about himself. This mixture of negative and positive…

In the poems written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s “Ulysses” and “Odysseus” written by W.S. Merwin we can compare and contrast both poems. In Tennyson’s “Ulysses” and in Merwin’s “Odysseus” they are talking about the same person, Odysseus. But the poems are also different because, Tennyson’s poem is about Odysseus talking about how his son would be a better fit king than he was, and that he would rather sail to find another world. In Merwin’s poem Odysseus talks about his journeys from one island to the other and how he is still sailing and trying to get home. So how can we compare and contrast both poems? Easy, because one poem is written about Odysseus and his adventures he encounters while trying to get back home. The poem “Ulysses” written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s, explains that Odysseus would rather much be happier sailing and searching for new lands, rather than just be the king of his homeland. Are there similarities and also differences between both poems, I believe there is and will explain why.…

The boys shared many memorable childhood memories together, and spent most of their lives together. The weird part was that one of the boys was a Hazara servant to the other one’s family.…
