World War 1 lasted from 1914-1918. The murder of crown prince Franz Ferdinand by a Yugoslavian activist was the spark for the war. A war that caused almost 10 million soldiers to lose their life, including Chris Wallace-Crabbe’s four uncles. Even though they lived on the other side of the Earth they were forced to participate in the war, as Australia was a part of The British Empire.
