Our House the musical
We will be looking at the extract our house. We will discuss and analyse the context of the whole musical, the audience reaction the characters and other things that may make this musical unique. We will also analyse 2 songs and look in depth as to why they are popular. We will also look at the cultural influences that Madness have in their music.
The musical that has been chosen and cut down for an hour long performance is our house. The musical looks at different themes and issues throughout the show giving you a story of good Joe and Bad Joe. One of the man themes is good and bad and this is an ongoing process throughout the story showing that depending on the decisions you make you could go down the wrong road at any moment. It can be argued that one of the main issues in the musical is peer pressure, which still has some relevance in modern society. We see this quite often with Reecey trying to pressure Joe into stuff he doesn’t really want to get involved in. "don’t turn me away Jo-Jo it 's just a little job, I planned it all nice and convenient, on your way home from work" here we see Reecey trying to persuade Joe to help him break into a house, he uses the words "little" and nice and convenient to try convince him that it is going to be easy and that they will be In and out. We see Reecey try this with Joe earlier on in the show when he tells Joe to forget exams and come work with him.
Two of the most important characters in the play would have to be Sarah and Joe as most of the story revolves around them in to different worlds good and bad. In both worlds Sarah is a focused girl who knows what she wants out of life. She can sometimes get frustrated with Joe and is always looking for the good inside him but she is shocked and disgusted at the decisions that bad Joe has made throughout his life, "Your still running Joe, only the crime just got bigger" Joe is in love with Sarah but during the course of the musical has to different personalities. his
