In “This is the Life” by Annie Dillard, Dillard uses a dominant magnanimous tone and she switches between a mocking tone and a provocative tone to express that humans nowadays take their lives for granted and they do not realize that not everyone in the world has such an easy life. Dillard does a tremendous job on describing the lives of humans in the past and the present, mapping out scenarios describing the “easy life” during a certain time period. As well as trying to get the reader to appreciate what they have in life, she also reminds us of how we need to challenge our worldview.…
Lucinda Matlock is an optimistic person compared to her husband, Davis Matlock, who is a pessimistic person. The attitudes of the characters caused them to see different views when it came to living life. Lucinda felt she lived her life fully and happily, all because she worked, helped people, and loved her husband and kids. Davis, on the other hand, felt that he was only going through the motions of living and never truly lived. According to Lucinda, “It takes life to love Life” then by definition, one must do something for his/her life if s/he wants to fully love and enjoy it (224). Davis’ pessimistic view on life causes him to believe nobody truly enjoys life. Given Davis’ metaphor, “Suppose it is nothing but the hive: that there are drones…

There is a place in Spotsylvania that I call home. This place is a safe haven for me when I am tired, stressed, or if I need anything. When I’m tired there is a bed for me to take naps or sleep through the night in. If stressed there is plenty of comfort food in the fridge, or cabinets. There is also many different things in the housed for whatever you may need. I find myself most comfortable in my room. I could be in bed, my chair, the floor, even doing makeup too, but I will still be in total comfort. Almost anyone is welcome in my home, as long as you are respectful, without problem.…

“Life is not made of minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, or years, but of moments. You must experience each one before you can appreciate it.” (Sarah Breathnach). Time is a lifeless measurement of the years that one has spent on earth. One can go through life living by these lifeless minutes and never experience what life is really about. People spend every minute wishing for more time to be beautiful, to be power, to be rich. All the time in the world can pass but moments are what make life worth living. Moments are where love and wisdom are gained and without moments life is a race to the grave. Throughout Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment, Nathanial Hawthorne examines the meaning of time and moments with the chance of growing young again to experience life.…

Changing is inevitable part in our life. We daily see the evidences of changing anywhere. In fact, the changing is nature phenomenon. Also, sometimes the differences which have been resulted of changing can be wide and distinct, other times it can be unnoticeable. There is an ancient quote which says "if people have finished changing, they will finish," this say implies the idea that the variability is a continuous process. My hometown varies a lot for the last ten years compared to when I was a child. The obvious changing has been occurred in people income rate, public services, and education.…
When early childhood's happy daysIn memory I see once moreAlong the lovely verdant shoreThat meets a gently murmuring sea. When I recall the whisper softOf zephyrs dancing on my browWith cooling sweetness, even nowNew luscious life is born in me.When I behold the lily whiteThat sways to do the wind's command,While gently sleeping on the sandThe stormy water rests awhile; When from the flowers there softly breathesA bouquet of ravishingly sweet,Out-poured the newborn dawn to meet,As on us she begins to mine. With sadness I recall…recallThy face, in precious infancy,Oh mother, friend most dear to me,Who gave a life a wondrous charm.I yet recall a village plan,My joy, my family, my boon,Besides the freshly cool lagoon, -The spot for which my heart beats warm.Ah yes! My footsteps insecureIn your dark forests deeply sank; And there by every river's bankI found refreshment and delight; Within that rustic temple prayedWith childhood's simple faith unfeignedWhile cooling breezes, pure, unstained, Would send my heart on rapturous flight.I saw the Master in the grandeurOf your ancient hoary wood,Ah, never in your refuge couldA mortal by regret be smitten; And while upon your sky of blueI gaze, no love nor tendernessCould fail, for here on nature's dressMy happiness itself was written.Ah, tender childhood, lovely town,Rich fount of my felicitiesOh those harmonious melodiesWhich put to flight all dismal hours,Come back to my heart once more!Come back, gentle hours, I yearn!Come back as the birds return,At the budding of the flowers!Alas, farewell! Eternal vigil I keepFor thy peace, they bliss, and tranquility,O Genius of good, so kind!Give me these gifts, with charity. To thee are my fervent vows –To thee I cease not to sighThese to learn and I call to the skyTo have thy…
I have two villages, the one at Perak and at Pahang but the mostly dears in my heart is my village at Perak because I left so many sweet childhood memory of mine there especially during before the Hari Raya. My village located at Parit, Perak at a very country environment. Perak River was the backyard. As usual, early in the morning when the sun just a quarter shine, we had a full-hearted breakfast of Nasi Lemak and Kopi O and quickly me and my 8 siblings would rush down to take a tippy toe in the cold river water and teasing the sloughing cow at the river bank. By the time we got home, our grandparents, Atok and Opah already served us with a hot delicious boiled tapioca dip with sprinkles of sweet sugar and grated milky coconut. In the afternoon, the yellow sun was setting until you can see the shine of the golden ray radiates without a cloud in the sky. The sharp tweet of the birds can be loudly heard around the house. The zinc roof absorbs all the hotness making the house in a high temperature and causing our energy to slow down decreasing and our shirts are just wet with sweat. So we mostly would simply take off our shirts, take a few cotton pillows and lie down together at the balcony without realizing a gentle afternoon breeze was just enough to make us asleep comfortably. Late afternoon, our adventure just began; we would take a ride with our Atok old bicycle across the village where a breezy rice paddy field located. The scenery of the golden paddy field with breezy crispy air is just breath-taking. We would race along the paddy field to feel the air breeze as much as we could. Although, the ride would surely a pain in the back because the bicycles are just too big for kids like us but the enjoyable time playing with siblings and friends, dissolve the tiredness. After a hot tired playing in the sun, we would go to the mini old wooden shop to buy our favourites Malaysian ice-cream. It is actually just a Milo, Bandung or rose syrup water put in a…
